Walter J . Psoter , DDS , PhD , former NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine Director of Dental Research , was published in BioMed Central Oral Health in February 2016 . Dr . Psoter ’ s research on " Persistent oral health disparity in 12-year old Hispanics : a cross-sectional study " estimates levels of dental caries in 12-year-old Puerto Ricans in 2011 and compares that data with 1997 results to investigate any possible change in caries outcomes after implementation of government health insurance reform .

Dr . David Reznik , NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine AEGD Associate Director-Georgia , et al ., was published in Oral Diseases in April 2016 . The article , entitled “ Ethics , research and HIV : lessons learned-a workshop report ” discusses how the dental team can play an important role in linkage to confirmatory diagnosis and care with the goal of reducing to zero the number of undiagnosed cases .

Robert Goldberger , NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine Endodontic Program Director , Marc Kunin , Associate Director , Gregory An , Endodontic Program 2013 alumnus , and Walter Psoter , former NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine Director of Dental Research , had their clinical research on the " Association of Radiographically Diagnosed Apical Periodontitis and Cardiovascular Disease : A Hospital Records-based Study " published in the June 2016 issue of the Journal of Endodontics . The article investigates whether an association exists between apical periodontitis and cardiovascular disease .

Brian Darling , a NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine Pediatric Dentistry resident in Rhode Island , was the principal investigator and lead author of a study entitled , " Emergency department visits and revisits for nontraumatic dental conditions in Iowa ," published in the March 2016 issue of the Journal of Public Health Dentistry .

Dr . Ken Reed , NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine Associate Program Director , Dental Anesthesiology , coauthored the article " Responding to Cardiac Arrest ," published in July 2016 in Decisions in Dentistry . The article discusses ways to adequately train to equip dental teams to provide an immediate and coordinated emergency response for patients experiencing chest pain or cardiac arrest .
