Incoming Hawaii AEGD Residents Practice Suturing on Pigs

Annually , under the mentorship of attending periodontist Dr . Neil Furuya , incoming NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine AEGD residents at Kokua Kalihi Valley ( KKV ) Health Center in Honolulu , HI , perform various periodontal suturing techniques on wild pig jaws donated by pig hunters across the state .
2015 participants included Drs . Romi Chua , Hennasea Tokumura , Laura Van , Neil Furuya ( attending periodontist ), Tru Tran , Kathleen Cruz , Anne Tran , Caitlin Chamberlain , and standing is Dr . Ken Choy ( attending periodontist ).
2016 participants ( on right ) included Drs . Anita Trieu , Nicole Endo , Leesa Ching , Dr . Ken Choy , Dr . Neil Furuya , Jacy Yoshimoto , Erin McEvoy , and Kamille Torres

Faculty and Residents Participate in Special Olympics Fall Games
NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine faculty and residents volunteered at the Special Olympics New York State Fall Games , held October 16-17 , 2015 , in Glens Falls , NY , to provide free oral health screenings to athletes through the organization ’ s Special Smiles program . Over 1,000 athletes and coaches from across New York State participated . Dr . Gary Goldstein , NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine AEGD Associate Director-Albany Region , who completed training in the Special Smiles Program in February 2015 , helped organize the event .
