MEETINGS & EVENTS MEETINGS & EVENTS Free Dental Screenings Teams from the NYU Langone Hospitals Postdoctoral Dental Residency Program provided free dental screenings to 549 preschoolers at District 20 Pre-K Centers in Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, and Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York, in June 2017. Special Olympics Smiles Day Becky Herman, Director of Recruitment and Community Outreach, and Dr. Steven Perlman, DDS, MScD, DHL (hon), Global Clinical Director and Founder, Special Olympics Special Smiles, Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry, Boston University School of Dental Medicine and Faculty at NYU Langone Hospitals Postdoctoral Dental Residency Program attended Smile Day. The event was hosted by University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine at the Museum of Disability History on Thursday, March 3, 2017 in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Perlman and Ms. Herman visited two area schools and collaborated with faculty and students from UB Dental's American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry Student Chapter along with staff from the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation to discuss ways to address access to care for children and adults with developmental disabilities. ••• Medical Mission Faculty and Residents from Hawaii participated in the Aloha Medical Mission, a week-long mission to Manapla, Philippines, where they, along with three other dentists from Hawaii, treated over 860 patients. The mission team also included five anesthesiologists, three general surgeons, one otorhinolaryngologist, two gynecologists, two plastic surgeons and nurses. The Aloha Medical Mission, led by Dr. Brad Wong, has visited the same area for the past fifteen years. ••• ••• AAPD Lobby Days Faculty and residents of the Pediatric Dentistry program participated in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) lobby days March 11-12, 2017. They met with congress members to lobby for continuation of Title 7 funding, to keep Affordable Care Act expansion and prevent block granting of Medicaid. Faculty participants included Drs. Shina Amin, Mariella De Stefano, and Rajesh Adhia. Dental resident participants included Drs. Paul Zeylikman, Jeremy Morris (Brooklyn, NY), Daniel Gonzalez (Holyoke, MA), Catherine Kolasny, Rhoderick Blasco, Mehreen Kassoo, Jaspreet Ghuman (all Maryland), Aarika Anderson Elter, and Ara Greer (Yakima, WA). Dental Van Services AEGD residents from Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV) Health Center in Hawaii helped to provide expanded preventive dental services to area public schools in two fully equipped, two-chair dental vans that routinely visit schools within Kalihi Valley.
