Back-to-School TIPS Establish Routines One of the best ways to help kids get ready for back to school success is to start establishing routines. Two to three weeks before school starts, begin establishing bedtime and mealtime routines. Children should start going to bed earlier so they get used to waking up earlier for school. This is also a good time to discuss homework time, TV and play time. Back-to-School WEST PLATTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL R egistration & E nrollment Enrollment & registration will be from August 3rd to August 13th at the Elementary School between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:00 pm. O pen H ouse Elementary Open House will be held on Wednesday, August 12th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Please meet in the high school gym at 5:30 p.m. for an introduction of the elementary staff. Afterward, you may stop in your child’s classroom to meet your child’s teacher and drop off school supplies. You will also be able to pay for school lunches, talk to our bus transportation director and visit with PTO about what they do at West Platte. If you have any questions please contact Dana Buttz in the Elementary Office at 816-640-2811. Get Acquainted Especially for younger children, the first day of school can be a bit scary and children become anxious. Take time to tour the school and classrooms with your children. Even if they don’t remember where everything is the first day they will at least be somewhat familiar with their surroundings. Also, by showing your children how excited you are about them starting school, they will also become excited. Become Organized Before school starts, get folders or envelopes to keep important school school information. Make sure your child’s immunizations and school emergency contact information is up to date. After reading through the school information, mark important dates on your calendar so there are no surprises. Visit our website, Twitter, Facebook, and download our mobile app. This is a great way to stay informed! Plan Before & After School Having your transportation worked out before school starts should help alleviate any anxiety for both the child and parents especially if your child is going to ride the school bus, ride his or her bike or walk to school. Putting together a route if your child is riding a bike or if your child is walking can be helpful. Remind your children of the rules when strangers approach and make sure they know who to call in the event of an emergency to or from school. Safety is the most important thing for our kids! 4 WEST PLATTE HIGH SCHOOL Junior High/ High School Registration For grades 11-12, registration will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Grades 8-10 will be held on Wednesday, August 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students, please bring completed registration packets (mailed home over the summer) and any payment due to the high school office.
