We have emerged from winter without too many bouts of inclement weather. Spring can be an optimistic time of year. As the color green spreads out daily over the landscape thoughts of an exciting future are always at the surface. We have much to be optimistic about here at West Platte. We are approaching the late stages of the current building project. Certainly many of you have taken advantage of the nice weather and sampled the new track and football field. Please enjoy yourselves safely if you utilize that great facility. The new additions are changing daily. They seem to grow about as quickly as the spring foliage some days. The opportunities for our kids will increase as these new facilities become operational. New locker rooms, new weight room, new wrestling and multipurpose rooms are all nice. The parts that really excite are the three new science labs and a life skills classroom. Those two items, part of the final phase, give us an academic anchor to the project, and a facility to tap a wide array of student talents. The project has progressed quickly and smoothly. Any mention of the construction project would be negligent without mentioning the contributions of Dr. Mark Harpst. He has continued to serve the District in a part-time capacity overseeing many aspects of the ongoing construction. His experience and insight have been an invaluable service to the District. We have a caring and wonderful educational environment. Our easily evident strengths are going to be enhanced by additions to our facilities. Every student who attends here will, at some point, be reached by the new additions. Here’s hoping you and your families have an enjoyable and safe spring. We are in an exciting time. The future looks bright. It’s a great day to be a Blue Jay, and there are many more great days to come. Sincerely, John Rinehart
