ARRIVE ALIVE

On October 21st, juniors and seniors from West Platte joined juniors and seniors from North Platte to participate in our second annual Arrive Alive event. Several county agencies including the Platte County Health Department and the Weston Police Department partnered with our school to take students through an interactive experience that warned students about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Students also heard a presentation by Think First. Students heard from a nurse as well as a local victim of distracted driving. As always, our goal is to provide students with real-life scenarios to encourage responsible decisions as they get behind the wheel of a vehicle. See more pictures here!

FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA

Even though our FFA program was just recently re-chartered last year, several students are reaping the benefits of agricultural education. While taking these classes, some students are working hard to build a strong legacy and represent our school at the state and national level. Kaleb Baber has taken opportunities through our agriculture program and built a project that has gained national attention. His project for the Missouri Agriscience Fair, titled “What’s in Your Water?” won top prize in that category. Mr. Baber will be competing at the National FFA Convention at the end of October. His project also caught the attention of Tyson Foods. They were so impressed with Kaleb’s research that they sent a team to Weston to interview and get footage of Kaleb. This video will be shown at same National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky right before Donnie Smith, CEO of Tyson Foods, speaks to the delegates and participants. Ms. Dugan, our FFA sponsor, will support Kaleb as he competes in this event.
