PERSISTENCE OF VOWS

by Salvatore Difalco

Contraindicated:

reanimating

the corpse when

it’s already

putrefying.

Not an either/or

like loving

or not loving

somebody you

only like.

Before this,

happiness, not bliss—

that blind alley,

with its thugs and

one-legged dogs.

Maybe better,

maybe not, than all

that would follow;

only time will tell

how far we have fallen.
