You can sign up online at www.isabelhospice. org.uk or by giving us a ring on 01707 382500.” John explained “Both my brother Daniel and I will be doing the 100k in memory of our parents. We had both our parents, Patricia and Derek Jelliman in Isabel Hospice and will never forget all the amazing staff and in particular the care and kindness shown to us at a very difficult time. Our mum Patricia died at Isabel Hospice on 10th October 2011 from breast cancer. She had been in hospital for around 5 weeks and it was very hard to see her suffer. The staff are stretched too thin. This frequently meant that we had to go chasing nurses and doctors for information and pain relief. The medication was crucial as it took time to get and she was in agony most of the time as her the discs and bones in her spine were crumbling because the cancer had spread. We will never forget watching her suffer as we waited helplessly. Then she was transferred to the Isabel. On the day I followed mum and dad in the ambulance. As soon as we got through the doors were warmly greeted by a friendly face on reception and quickly settled into her room. My dad and I left the room briefly and both embraced and cried our eyes out in the hallway at the kindness we were shown, and knew things would be so much better for her there. We soon 4 met with the Consultant who put us at ease with her professional manner and assurance that mum’s pain would be under control. This was all we needed to hear, as it was the hardest thing to see her in pain. The care she received was second to none and the kindness shown to all our family in the coming weeks was amazing and we will always be extremely grateful. Every one of the staff who work there are amazing people who take pride in their work making what is a very difficult time more bearable. This is a wonderful place that MUST be kept going so others in the same position can benefit like we did. Taking part this year will be brothers Daniel and John Jelliman, and they are doing the 100k.
