New Mayor of
Bishop’s Stortford
Cllr George Cutting was inaugurated
as the Mayor of Bishop’s Stortford on
the 15th May at the Bishop’s Stortford
Town Council.
Commenting on his role to the Flyer
magazine, he said: “I hope to live up to
expectations to enrich the reputation
of Bishop’s Stortford. I am looking
forward to representing the town as
far and wide as I can and to attending
as many functions as I am able to”
The Mayor’s charities include Isabel
Hospice and Age Concern Bishop’s
Stortford.
Since he became the Mayor of Bishop’s
Stortford Cllr George Cutting has been
at a very wide range of events.
So far these have included attending
the Mayor of Hertford’s Civic Service
on the 20th May and also the May
Games in the Monastery Gardens in
Windhill on the same day.
He also set off the Isabel Hospice Bike
Ride on the 27th May from the town’s
Rugby Club and attended the Mayor of
Sawbridgeworth’s Civic Service on the
3rd June with his wife.
The Mayor then opened Accuro’s new
administration offi ces (children and
young people’s charity) on the 4th
June and the following week attended
an event for Carers in Herts, where
12 carers were given afternoon tea at
Bill’s Restaurant on the 13th June.
The Mayor attended the annual
Bishop’s Stortford Town Carnival
on the 16th June and said: “I am
very grateful to all the staff, offi cers,
members, stall holders, volunteers,
helpers and all those who attended the
event, for making this year’s Carnival
such a great success”
During the Carnival the Mayor
compared most of the events in the
main arena.
In the evening of the 16th June the
Mayor, who is also Vice Commodore
of Stort Boat Club, arranged a dinner
at Cote for 28 members of local boat
clubs.
The Mayor attended the 200 year
anniversary of St Michael’s School at
St Michaels’s Church on the 17th June
and the St Michael’s School Fete on
the 23rd June. He also attended the
Mayor of Dunmow’s Civic Service on
the 24th June.
Alongside a group of local scouts the
Mayor was involved in a litter pick up
by the Apton Road area on the 26th
June and he also opened the new Kwik
Fit centre in the town on the 28th
June.
On the 29th June he attended the
Mayor of Buntingford’s Civic Reception
and the next day he attended the
Armed Forces Day Parade in Bishop’s
Stortford (30th June).
The Mayor of Bishop’s Stortford then
took part in a joint Civic Service with
the leader of East Herts District Council
at St Michael’s Church on the 1st July.
Events coming up in July
The Mayor will participate as a boater
in the Ware Boat Festival on the 7th
July.
He will also be involved in the Town
Criers Competition on the 14th July.
This event starts off at the Bishop’s
Stortford Council Chamber at 10am
and then moves on to Sworders Field
from 11am.
The Mayor will attend the garden
party of Cllr Richard Thake, Leader of
Hertfordshire County Council on the
14th July and then an Elvis Night at
Cibo on the 20th July in aid of Age
Concern Bishop’s Stortford.
