A Little Goes a Long Way
It is summer- no doubt . The air is thick and the plants are loving it . My friends with that thin southern blood are loving the heat as well . Personally , I am counting down the 136 days until the first snowfall . ( I may be a little optimistic with that timing !)
Although the weather affects all of our lives , it touches some more than others . The same can be said for Art Little . He has had an impact on the lives of so many residents in our community during their times of need . He does so quietly and with great consideration for those whom he is reaching out to help .
For years Mr . Little has been deeply involved in the welfare of Bright , as well as the county in which he grew up . Neighbors who see Mr . Little are greeted with a friendly smile , iconic black rimmed glasses , and a gentle , " Hello ."
Since 1992 , Art Little has been a member of the Bright Lions Club . Anyone can claim to be a member of a club , but a true member lives by the values of that organization pours his heart and soul into everything that the club stands for . That is exactly what Mr . Little has done as a Bright Lion .
The Bright Lions Club has a program called the Lions Hospital Loan Out Program which provides medical equipment to those in need . No fanfare , no hoops to jump through . Just simply a person with a need for medical equipment from canes to hospital beds . Since its inception , Art Little has been in charge of the program and has reached out to thousands in our community . He finds medical equipment for each situation and delivers it to the person who needs it no matter how far away they are . For over twenty years he has used his own truck , gas , time and energy to do this .
But it ' s not just a delivery to someone in need . Mr . Little is known for sensing when an individual has a concern . He has a gift for touching one ' s shoulder , saying a kind word , or simply listening and being supportive , all at just the right moment . That is the compassion Mr . Little gives to his fellow neighbors .
Mr . Little ' s contributions to the causes of the Bright Lions Club do not stop there . For over twenty-five years he has been treasurer for the organization , a position that we all know requires countless hours and a lot of effort .
As treasurer , Mr . Little was recognized at the state level for his outstanding service to the organization .
The small town of Bright packs a big wallop each summer with the Bright Parade and Festival . Art Little was one of the founders of this parade whose purpose is to build community spirit and bring people to the Bright Festival . Today Mr . Little can still be found organizing , setting up , and doing whatever needs to be done for the parade . Mr . Little and his wife , Ruth Ann , were honored as Grand Marshals of the parade in 2015 .
As an owner of a construction company for thirty years , Mr . Little knows the value of a good education and how it can drive one ' s success in life . He was a member of the Sunman-Dearborn Education Foundation established to help ensure that gaming revenue was used to provide students with the best possible opportunities for a good education .
Over the years , Mr . Little has dedicated untold hours and worked tirelessly for

Dearborn County residents through political avenues . He was precinct committeeman until he was elected to the position of Dearborn County Commissioner of District II . His mantra has always been , " Fiscal responsibility , hard work , and small government ." He attends more meetings than one can fathom , sits on several boards , and is the county representative for the Southeast Indiana Regional Planning Commission and the Dearborn County Solid Waste Management Board . Mr . Little sees these extra commitments as a dedication to doing whatever is necessary to represent the residents of Dearborn County in the best way possible .
The position of county commissioner is one that takes many more hours than just the two monthly meetings . Mr . Little can always be found conversing with his constituents to learn what is important to them and how the decisions of county government affect their lives . I am sure that Mr . Little takes his responsibilities as County Commissioner very seriously , and I for one am glad he is in that position to help Dearborn County residents maintain their quality of life .
Mr . Little is a member of the Indiana Shriners , a group of men committed to family , engaged in ongoing personal growth , and dedicated to providing care for children and families in need . He also serves as Chaplain for Integrity Lodge # 763 located in Bright . Indiana Freemasons define themselves as transcending boundaries for the greater good of mankind . As a Freemason , Mr . Little is devoted to caring for disadvantaged children , the sick and the elderly . He is actively involved in a great deal of community volunteer work as a part of this fraternity .

Mr . Art Little- a man of great fortitude .
Stateline and Salt Fork Roads . Our own Jeanie Smith once wrote about taking buckets to that well to collect water for her home . My how things have changed . As development altered how we lived , the well became no longer needed . The charm of the well was preserved as a wishing well ; the carpenter of that well was none other than Art Little . For years , the well was iconic in the Bright community , but unfortunately , road construction became the demise of the beloved well . Rest assured , however , that the well is being rebuilt by the Bright Lions Club and is being overseen by Mr . Little . It will be located in the Bright Meadows Park and will remain for generations to enjoy .
Mr . Little was the Miller Township trustee for years . As trustee , he took on the responsibilities of maintaining public cemeteries , helping those who struggled with short term financial needs , and handling funds earmarked the fire department on behalf of the township .
Mr . Little ' s fellow Lion and friend , Jim Thatcher , said it best when describing him . " Art Little is not just a good man he is an example of what every man should strive to be ," he said .
What sums up the motivation for Art Little ? He has a very giving spirit . His deep love for God , Country , and his family guide him . His good common sense and decent heart show through in all that he does for our community .
Many thanks to a wonderful man who has truly made a difference for decades . Mr . Little , you have set the bar high for generations to come .
