Hurricanes have caused their share of havoc this month . I was lucky to visit Wilmington , North Carolina and the Outer Banks this past June . Watching the news and viewing all of the destruction of this beautiful area is so heartbreaking . Two local brothers , Jeff Schwartz and Mike Schwartz , got to experience the destruction first hand as part of the teams from Duke Energy who went down to assist with getting power back on . They came back with stories of how thankful the people were for their assistance . The residents even bought drinks in restaurants for them and brought food and drinks to them as they worked in their yards . Mike and Jeff were not on the same team and only ran into each other one time !
Weather also caused a problem this year for Phi Beta Psi for their sponsored event of Arts and Crafts at Newtown Park . For the first time in their fifty-year tradition , the event had to be canceled due to rain . All of the vendors and crafters alike were disappointed , but the cancellation was necessary .
Dearborn County Historical Society and Indiana Landmarks joined forces on Sept . 22 to sponsor a sold-out house tour called the Ridge Avenue Ramble . The event was held on a beautiful fall day and included four renovated homes located on Ridge Ave . Seeing firsthand all of the renovations that had been done to the homes was so interesting . I walked around with my Aunt Tootsie ( Ruth Bernhard ) and saw a lot of people we know , including Bill and Pat Krider whose house was one of the homes opened to the public that day .

together , allows some wiggle time , and offers a coupon for a free cookie from the café . The library also offers a boxed snack pack to any child who asks . These snack packs are supplied to the library courtesy of the Dearborn County Clearing House . Quite a few packets are passed out on Fridays and Saturdays and no proof of need is required . Look for information regarding the Musical Munchkins program that begins on Oct . 18 . It will be a time of music and motion for children from 2-6 .
The library patio is complete . It is such a quiet , peaceful place where you can enjoy the courtyard over lunch , snack , or a beverage . The community container gardens on the patio were flourishing when I visited . I met Audrey and Evelyn McCord and their grandmother Sandi as they found baby strawberries in one container . I resisted the temptation to pop a cherry tomato in my mouth .

honored and their senior banners are displayed . I was fortunate to snag a picture of the girls ’ soccer seniors on senior night from my daughter Rachel Acasio . Best wishes for a successful season to head Coach Bill Offutt and the senior girls Makenna White , Sara Smart , Payton Seig , Erin Murphy , Morgan Roudebush , Hanna Miller , Alyssa McAdams , Julia Ireland , Sheridan Houze , Erin Hill , Jenna Farmer , and Shannon Bachmann .
It is with great sadness that we said goodbye this month to a 1956 Lawrenceburg High School graduate Nelson Elliott . Almost everyone in the community has been in contact with Nelson in one way or another over the years . He had so many talents including on-air personality for WSCH , master of ceremonies of many more festivities than I can name , teacher , band and choir director , and auctioneer . I happened to be traveling Indiana 56 as his long funeral procession drove past on its way to his final resting place at Riverview Cemetery . As I looked in front of me and in my rear view mirror , every single car and semi stopped and pulled over to honor his procession . Rest in peace Nelson .
