CFS Raises Funds for Local Charity
Roger Ford , Wealth Advisor and CEO along with Spencer Ford and Austin Ford , Wealth Advisors of Conservative Financial Solutions , LLC ( CFS ), recently hosted their ninth Annual Client Appreciation Event at Stricker ’ s Grove Amusement Park .
Over 1,550 individuals came out to the annual event as Conservative Financial Solutions gave back to the community while thanking their clients for their commitment . The evening created lasting memories for CFS clients , their children , and grandchildren .
For the past five years , CFS has partnered with Christ ’ s Loving Hands , a local charity which partners with churches , businesses , and community agencies to make a difference in the Harrison community . CFS clients and their families were asked to consider those in need by filling Roger ’ s truck with non-perishable items or supplies . Those who attended could also purchase prize basket tickets or split the pot tickets to raise additional funds . This year , local business partners including Market Street Grille , contributed to the prize baskets !
Through the generosity of those in attendance , two truck beds along with the truck cabs were overflowing with donated items . Monetary donations along with the funds raised at

Casey ’ s New Venture
Nestled deep in the woods in Ohio County is Heritage Farms at Willow Creek , a wedding and private event venue . Owned and operated by the Knigga family , Heritage Farms at Willow Creek is a 450-acre farm located near Milton . The park-like setting includes century-old trees , several streams , and two creeks . The property is classified as a Forest Wetland Area as well as a Wildlife Habitat .
In the heart of the property is the Knigga 1853 Hay Press Barn which was originally located in Rising Sun before
Casey Knigga & Toni Minning at Heritage Farms .
Casey Knigga , also the owner of Casey ’ s Outdoor Solutions , relocated the dilapidated structure to the Knigga family farm . After keeping the barn components in storage for a few years , it was restored back to its original glory in 2007 . A hay press is a three-story stationary hay bailing mechanism called the Hewitt , Beater and Mormon Press . It was invented by Samuel Hewitt of Switzerland County , Indiana in 1843 to be an improvement over other presses at the time . Making each 300-lb . bale would take ten to fifteen minutes . Bales were then shipped on the Ohio River to growing urban areas where hay was not readily available . Only two of the original two hundred to three hundred working hay press barns are left in the state of Indiana , and the Knigga Hay Press Barn is one of them . In 2016 the Knigga Hay Press Barn was selected as a Top 10 Indiana Bicentennial Barn out of the two hundred barns that were entered . Casey has a vision of the farm becoming an historic village . His search for historic structures such as a bank , schoolhouse , saloon , and even a covered bridge is ongoing .
Heritage Farms is available for weddings , receptions , and private events that are out of the ordinary with a relaxed atmosphere . The property is also ideal for corporate events , reunions , retreats , and parties .

Common Financial Mistakes
A Five-Part Series on Common Financial Mistakes Made by Pre-Retirees & Retirees
PART TWO : INVESTMENTS
Investing during retirement is much different than investing for retirement . This fundamental principle is often overlooked when it comes to retirement income planning . When you started saving for retirement , you had a particular goal , save as much money as possible . So , you saved what money you could with the idea of one day being financially independent . As a retiree , the objective is to no longer accumulate a vast amount of wealth , but it is now important to properly manage what you have accumulated .
During retirement , your nest egg ( the wealth you accumulated during your working years ), should now provide the financial resources for what goals you set for retirement . This nest egg should provide income to pay for every day expenses , health care , travel , spoiling the grandchildren , and the list continues !
In some cases , this nest egg will need to provide financial income for more than thirty years !
Common Mistake # 2 : Misunderstanding Risk
In Part One , I shared the first common mistake is not having a plan for retirement . The second common mistake goes hand in hand with the first , it ’ s misunderstanding risk .
“ I tell my clients , I want their investment lives in retirement to be boring , so their actual lives during retirement can be full of excitement !”
— Roger Ford
Too often , when I evaluate portfolios of individuals near retirement , they are filled with an incredible and unnecessary amount of risk . They haven ’ t been advised properly on when and how to help reduce their portfolio ’ s risk as they plan for their anticipated income needed during retirement . I have seen portfolios that are in danger of losing more than a quarter to a third of their value if faced with another economic downturn like the ones we faced in the early 2000s 1 or the financial crisis of 2008 2 . Can you imagine what retirement would look like if your portfolio lost a quarter of its value ?
Preparing for retirement consists of building a portfolio with a responsible amount of market risk as well as generate a steady and predictable income stream . I tell my clients , I want their investment lives in retirement to be boring , so their actual lives during retirement can be full of excitement ! Retirement is not a time to be on a swing of more than a 5 % loss and a 15 % gain , it doesn ’ t make sense to take on more risk at this time of life . The key to having a successful retirement begins with having a plan and managing the amount of risk in your investment portfolio .
