Family . One word that holds many different meanings . For BJ and Jessica Murphy , it meant going through an eighteen-month adoption process to welcome another daughter into their family .
On June 5 , BJ and Jessica along with their 8-year-old son Canaan traveled to China . After touring Beijing for a few days ( including attending a tea ceremony , seeing the Great Wall of China and visiting the Summer Palace ), they continued into Nanning , located in southern China , to meet their new 3-year-old daughter Ivy . On June 11 , Ivy was placed in their arms in a civil affairs office and on June 12 , she officially became their

O ur daughter . The Murphy ’ s spent time visiting Ivy ’ s birth city , Qinzhou , and met her wonderful foster family who cared for her for more than one year . After one week in Guangzhou , China , the Murphy ’ s traveled home to Guilford . Ivy is settling into her new home with her siblings , Canaan , Ezra , and Lainey . Lainey was also adopted from China in 2014 . Ivy is beginning to learn English and is expected to be fluent in roughly 4-6 months . Ivy ’ s adapting well to her new home and enjoys music , swinging on her swing set and mimicking everything done by her big sister , Lainey . Congratulations to the Murphy ’ s !

On July 8 , the descendants of George and Catherine Widolff gathered for a family reunion in Yorkville . George and Catherine were the original owners of Widolff ’ s store . More than one hundred people attended to reminisce and reconnect with family members , including long-distance travelers from Oregon and Wisconsin . The

The 38th annual St . Martin Country Run 5K race , the oldest road race in Dearborn County , occurred on July 29 . This year , ninety-six runners competed to see who would earn the title of the overall winner . It was a neck-and-neck race , but Kyle Gutfreund , a senior at East Central High School , outran his cross-country coach , Fr . Jonathan Meyer , earning this year ’ s title as the overall winner . Fr . Meyer had nothing to be ashamed of , earning first place in his age group and priest category . Alexandra Stevens of Cincinnati was the top female runner , Jenny Bulach of New Alsace was the most improved runner , and Sarann Mock from Cincinnati earned the title of the master runner at age
Sarann Mock 87 !
The race is truly a family affair for the workers and the runners . Jim and Melody Bohrer , Joe and Bev Rauch , Mark and Theresa Widolff , and Jeff Mersmann helped coordinate and direct the race . Local families who competed in this year ’ s race include Bev , T . J . and Garrett Rauch ; Noah and Owen Mersmann
