Mayor Mike Bettice commented , “ This is one way we can honor Batesville ’ s best men and women while also informing the younger generation of the sacrifices that were made .”
In other news , blue skies , warm breezes , and the excitement of a patriotic concert came together on July 1 as more than two thousand gathered for the Star-Spangled Symphony at Batesville ’ s PLEX . The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra performed patriotic tunes that culminated with fireworks . The free concert was part of a three-year organizational partnership and is slated to be featured again in 2019 and 2020 . Summer has certainly been very busy for the Lawrenceburg community . Construction and road repairs seem to be the topic of most conversations — mainly asking others how to get from Point A to Point B with the least amount of frustration . We can only be thankful that the railroad crossing was repaired this month and all is fine now !
Music on the River has been a great success in the downtown area this year . Everyone has their sights set on the completion of a wonderful new downtown park . The construction has finally begun , the detours to the IvyTech Parking Garage are set up and working quite well . However , Mother Nature doesn ’ t always cooperate . On July 26 the Keith Swinney Country Band was only able to perform half of their concert due to the threat of thunderstorms . I set my chair up near a sidewalk that night with Mary Worthington and Joy Lyon . I must admit that I enjoy people-watching as much as I enjoy the bands . That night some lucky individual collected a little over $ 700 in the split-the-pot raffle . Each week half of the pot goes to charity . That particular night , the other half of the pot went to the Special Olympics Fund . As always , Chuck Folop could be found wandering around the crowd taking pictures .
Party in the Street is held the first Friday of each month in Lawrenceburg . The party is for adults only , so bring your license because you will be carded no matter what your age is in order to enter the roped off area ! A lot of dancing was going on when the amazing group Cherry On Top performed last month .
Has everyone noticed how many festivals are being held in our area this summer ? I enjoyed attending the St . Lawrence chicken dinner with my dear friend and neighbor Margaret Linkmeyer . The chicken was delicious , and I just had to snap a picture of two of the many volunteer chicken fryers- Chris Nobbe and Phil Nicolai . I was so impressed by the smiles on their faces that I just had to check out the Dover All Saints Festival too . I again encountered a smiling face from Laurie Gaynor who was hard at work at the fryer in Dover . I would like to extend a big thank you to all of the volunteers who work so hard to make these festivals a success . I want to especially thank Debbie Chrisman for all of her hard work on the raffle baskets at St . John Lutheran German Fest . Her talent is amazing .
The Lawrenceburg High School students had a busy summer with summer PE ,

band practice , summer sports conditioning , and summer jobs . I was one of the grandparents who occasionally shuffled kids back and forth to these activities . I got to see the band practicing one day and shouted a loud hello to drum major Aulden Gray who shouted a hello back at me . I love these kids . Early August meant back to school and the books for students . With the new balanced school calendar , summer vacation was over before we all knew what happened .
Congratulations to Pastor Matt Voyer as he celebrated ten years in the ministry with a dinner , a visit from the bishop , gifts , and reception held by the congregation in his honor . This is a great milestone and the community wishes him all the best as he continues to serve his congregation and the community .
On another happy note , Lawrenceburg resident Nora Fehr celebrated the addition of two new snakes to her vast array of pets this month . Luckily , her mentor Scott Karn is teaching her all she needs to know about how to love her reptiles . Nora ’ s Pastave Ball Python is named Buttercup . You have to admit , they are both kind of cute .
