Just as sure as the seasons change , so do community activities . As I write this article , Firemen ’ s Festivals and church festivals are being held every weekend . In another month , we will see yard signs at every intersection promoting craft and vendors shows . Of course , craft shows are precursors to holiday activities . Wow time flies when you ’ re having fun !

chocolate shop has been demolished . The future of that parcel of land is yet to be determined .
A huge pat on the back to everyone who volunteered their time and financial support for the Bright Fire & EMS Festival and Bright Parade . It was a made-toorder weekend as far as the weather that brought out a large number of people . The Bright Parade was streamed live and is online for everyone who missed it . It takes unbelievable effort for both of these events to happen every year . The Festival raffle winners are Mark Sparto ( John Deere Lawn Tractor ), Bonnie Anderson ( Trip for 2 ), Denny Hayes ($ 500 ), Connie Marshall ($ 500 ), and Chris Smith ( Split The Pot ). Congratulations to all the winners . hvl @ goBEACONnews . com
Fall is just around the corner ! Which means the Haunted Hayride is gearing up for Oct . 13 . This is a fantastic community event ! If you would like to volunteer to drive your truck or let us borrow your trailer for this event , please email me . Children ’ s Activity Committee organizes these fun events throughout the year . The next movie night is Saturday , August 25 and our last one is Saturday , September 15 .
HVL residents Deana , Zach , and Tyler Morris , along with members from Dearborn Hills United Methodist Church , recently spent a week in Richwood , WV . They helped the community with home repair projects that were damaged in the 2016 floods . Projects included tearing off an old deck and building a new one , raising a front deck and adding stairs , replacing a water damaged floor , cleaning storefronts , and restoring a badly damaged garage . One of the most significant parts of the trip was the conversations that they had with both the people they met as well as with each other . They formed a special

Wow- the fourth of July has come and gone so quickly . The Town of Greendale had several events scheduled throughout the day : the 5K race , fishing derby , and bike parade . Greendale pool was overflowing with swimmers because the admission was free for the day . A big thank you to the pool ’ s lifeguards who keep everyone safe . A job well done , guards . That day was a little more peaceful than another day when I ventured down to the pool for some sun and relaxation . Out of the corner of my eye , I saw my husband standing by the fence wanting something . I walked over to him and only to be informed that I had to move my car per Pam ,

a Greendale Officer who came to his garage looking for me . Earlier over the loudspeaker , I heard someone announce that a brown Fusion needed to be moved because the bookmobile would be parking in that space . I didn ’ t acknowledge the page because my car is not brown . Mystery solved- it was my car . After all was said and done , I moved my car and later found out the bookmobile didn ’ t even park there .
This year our girl ’ s weekend was held in Indianapolis at the Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park Inn . The Inn was built on an old US army fort . Benjamin Harrison was our twenty-third
President of the United States . His grandfather , William Henry Harrison , was our ninth president of the United States . My sister Kathi Rowland , her daughter Stephanie Danca , and my daughter Debbie Seymours walked the trails of the park and visited several wineries in the area . We also toured the home of President Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis , one of my favorite older homes .
I have several September birthdays , and all three were born on September 11 . Happy birthday to John Kush , Stephanie Danca , and Wilma Dickerson .
Enjoy the rest of the summer .
