Excitement is in the air all over Bright ! It ’ s almost time for the Bright Parade and Bright Fire & EMS Festival . I love how people put their yard chairs along the parade route early in the day to reserve their spots . Please remember the road closes at 2 pm and the parade is at 3 pm . The parade is famed as one of the largest in Dearborn County , so get there early as shade trees are limited . Don ’ t forget to send in your Festival raffle tickets . This event generates most of the revenue for our Fire & EMS ’ s yearly budget . Our volunteer fire company protects over six thousand homes , two thousand outbuildings , and over seventy business structuresall within forty-five square miles . The department also services three schools , six day care facilities , nine buildings for elderly residents , and two community parks . What a lot of territories to cover . The firefighters are continually

O ur educating themselves and the community about all aspects of safety ( www . brightfd . org ). We need to take good care of our Volunteer Fire & EMS so that they can take good care of us .

Ray and Ruth Ann ( Siefferman ) Schlemmer are very excited to be Grand Marshalls of the Bright Parade . The Schlemmers participated in the very first parade on a tandem bicycle .
They lived many years with daughter Tonyia ( Cormican ) and Ronnie on the spot where the new restaurant is being built at the corner of Stateline and Megrue . Tonyia and I share many fond memories from our high school years about that location . Few people remember the pond on the backside of that lot where we swam during the summer and skated during the winter . The entire community had lots of fun at that pond .
Ruth Ann has gathered some history about the original Siefferman Farm and hopes that the owners of the new restaurant will include some of that memorabilia in the decor .

In addition to all this excitement , Ray and Ruth Ann will celebrate sixty-five years of marriage in August . Their family has labeled this , “ The summer of Ray and Ruth Ann .” I agree ! I think much celebrating is in store for the entire family !
The United Way of Greater Cincinnati ( UWGC ), Southeast Indiana Action Council , along with Director Karen Snyder of Bright , hosted an appreciation luncheon and farewell for long-time President and CEO , Rob Reifsnyder . Mr . Reifsnyder announced his retirement from UWGC after spending over thirty years with United Way in various capacities . Mr . Reifsnyder and Ms . Snyder , along with long-term Action Council members , E . G . McLaughlin ( Lawrenceburg ), Jim Scott ( Lawrenceburg ), and Lynn Deddens ( Sunman ), were very instrumental in the merger between the Dearborn & Ohio County United Fund and UWGC , which occurred in 2008 . Director Karen Snyder expressed , “ UWGC Southeast Indiana would like to send best wishes to Rob Reifsnyder on his next adventure and thank him for teaching us how to Live United , as we work to align the vision / mission of UWGC to the needs of our local communities !”
Sheila and Denny Merk welcome a new grandchild to the family . Larkin Merk was born to parents Jessie and Brittany on May 12 . Sister Lincoln is excited to have a sibling .

robbery as well as a fire that totaled the restaurant . It reopened as Isadore ’ s Pizzeria . Joe started making delicious food at age seventeen and is now retiring at age seventysix . Marlene Gartner shows her quilt to Alberta Temming . The pattern is a Log Cabin Rose . greendale @ goBEACONnews . com
Recently I took some time for myself and went to a quilts retreat at Higher Ground Retreat in West Harrison . My husband was home babysitting two dogs and two grandchildren while I was away . I had thoughts of not returning home .
About fifteen dedicated quilters from Lawrenceburg quilted from early morning until around 10:00 at night . Lots of laughing along with the sounds of their sewing machines filled the room . Attending the retreat from Dearborn County were Sharon Jansen , Alberta Temming , Janet Grawe , and myself . All the ladies are very talented quilters and lots of fun to be around .
A pickleball court has been added down by the tennis courts . Pickleball is a game like tennis only played with paddles like ping pong and a whiffle ball . The court is about half the size of a tennis court , and the game is lots of fun to play .
Larry and Terri Dillard hosted a graduation party for their grandson Kyle Knight . Kyle graduated from Lawrenceburg High School and will be attending The University of Cincinnati studying engineering . His parents are Brian and Melissa Knight of Greendale .
I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July . Lots of events went on in Greendale . I hate to say it , but the 4th is the beginning of the end of summer .
I need to make a correction on my last article concerning veteran Terry Cochran . Terry served in the Navy instead of the Marines . Sorry , Terry- I got you mixed up with Mike , the veterans officer who was in the Marines .
Condolences go out to the families of Joe Kendrick , Butch Jansen , Shirley Mae Beckett , and Millie Hornbach family .
Enjoy the rest of your summer !
