An International Presence in Lawrenceburg

On a bright , clear morning , national and international flags billowed in the breeze at Oakwood Farms in Lawrenceburg . Young foals playfully frolicked as visitors from Germany , and the far corners of the United States drove along the tree-lined driveway .
What would bring such well-traveled patrons to the small community of Lawrenceburg ? The annual inspection of mares and presentation of foals for the American Hanoverian Society . For over thirty years Oakwood Farms has been breeding and training Hanoverian horses who proudly meet the highest standards of the breed . The team at Oakwood Farms trains these beautiful creatures for both amateur and professional riders alike .
What exactly is a Hanoverian ? A warmblood horse that is bred for jumping , dressage , eventing , and driving . The breed originated in Lower Saxony in northern Germany , the former kingdom of Hanover . For over four hundred years , the area has been known for flourishing horsebreeding .

Visit the 2018 Dearborn County Fair June 18-23 . 4-H members are given one hundred projects from which to choose including aerospace to woodworking . The projects focus on healthy living , science and technology , leadership and citizenship , consumer and family , environment and Earth , animals , creative expression , plants , farm , and shooting sports . 4-H participants can also experience a 4-H camp , workshops and clinics , field trips , and state 4-H trips . Participation in 4-H helps young people develop the life skills they need to succeed .
4-H projects will be displayed in Agner Hall , located on the Fair Grounds , throughout the week . Robotics and 3D printing demonstrations will be held in Agner Hall June 19 , 6-8 pm .
To help with local awareness and community hunger needs , dry goods or canned good donations can be made during the fair at the Family Arts Station . Dearborn County Extension Office in Aurora will accept dry goods the inspection- Mr . George Walker III and Dr . Werner Schade . Mr . Walker is one of the newest stallion judges for the Hanoverian Society . Dr . Schade is a breeding manager and managing director of Hannoveraner Verband in Verden an der Aller , a town in Lower Saxony , Germany .
Each horse is judged using a scale from 1-10 in each of eight categories – Head / Neck , Topline , Type , Front Legs , Hind Legs , Correctness , Walk ( x2 ), and Trot ( x2 ). The maximum points possible are 100 . The top two high-scoring participants from each of the four possible classes receive ribbons at each inspection site . Certificates are sent from the AHS office to all participants . Scores are ranked from every Futurity Class throughout the tour , and Year-End Awards are also given . Champions and Reserve Champions are noted as well as the owner , sire , and dam ire .
Two residents of Oakwood Farms have international acuity . ES Widmark and ES Dubarry . Both are the stallions of Oakwood Farms . These stallions were carefully selected for their gaits , type , rideability , and temperaments ( very important for a 1200 lb
and food donations June 25- July 25 , or until tickets run out . One free State Fair Ticket will be issued for every five items donated .
Dearborn County Fair offers entertainment and activities suitable for the entire family ! Events include the poultry and dog show , youth livestock judging contest , a frog jumping contest , poultry cooking demonstration , a tractor pull , 4-H Royalty crowning , rabbit and swine shows , goat shows , a rodeo , and so much more .
