This year ’ s recipient of the Manchester Civic Association ’ s $ 500 scholarship is Shayna Wood of State Route 48 . The daughter of Christopher and Tawnya Wood , Shayna plans to major in Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Ivy Tech in the fall . Congratulations Shayna !
Batter UP ! And the 10U girls do not disappoint . As of May 21st , the girls in bright yellow and blue Manchester shirts are undefeated in softball with a record of 8-0 , plus one tie game . See the team picture here .
Archery is becoming a primary sport for young people because of the efforts of people like Frank German and the NASP - National Archery School Program . From September through June , Mr . German has been coaching the SD Tri-Team of Manchester , Moores Hill , and Dillsboro fourth- and fifth-grade archers . He is also an assistant coach for the SD Middle School archery team .
In May , Coach German took on teaching the NASP in the elementary schools as a weeklong introduction to the sport of archery . When asked why he would give so much of his time to this , Coach German said , “ There was a need , and I really like it . It ’ s a way for me to give back to the kids in the community .”

O ur his team ’ s hard work have paid off . The SD Tri-Team qualified for the State NASP Tournament . From there the team went to the Eastern Nationals , which includes every state east of the Mississippi . They placed 139th out of 171 teams and shot 46 points higher than at State .
Sixth-grader Garrett Cornett and middle schoolers Kiersten Dixon , Shanna Tschaenn , and Trapper Lewis qualified at Nationals to compete at the NASP Worlds Tournament in Louisville , June 7-9 , against over one thousand student archers .

On Saturday , July 28 , please do not miss the “ Cruising For Cromer ” seventy-miles-ofback-roads-and-creekin ’ event advertised in the Beacon . It will take place at Manchester Firehouse # 2 , with registration from 10-11:45 AM . Jeeps , 4x4s , trucks , and off-road vehicles will be cruising from Noon-5 PM . The event includes a raffle , silent auction , inflatables , music , and food ! All proceeds will go to the Brandon Tyler Cromer Scholarship Fund . Hope to see you there ! See ad on page 2 .

Stay close to people who feel like Sunshine … I read this quote the other day , and it spoke to me after just recently coming out of winter , skipping spring , and taking a giant leap right into summer . What a better day we all have when the sun is shining . It evokes great memories of being together with good friends , laughing , and enjoying each other ’ s presence , meeting new people and building strong relationships , and gathering with family and friends to celebrate the wedding of my youngest brother .
All Saints Parish-St . John the Baptist Campus Summer Festival will take place this year on Saturday , July 14 from 5 p . m . to Midnight and Sunday , July 15 from 11 a . m . to 9 p . m . Saturday evening will include food , beer garden , games and kid ’ s games , raffles , quilts , and live music by The Yorkridge Boys . Sunday will also include the Famous Fried Chicken Dinner from 11 a . m . to 5 p . m ., along with a country store , and Entertainment by DJ , Dan Morris . This year will once again feature the $ 10,000 raffle . Be sure to see the exhibit focusing on The Last Supper . Come join in the FUN and help support the parish community while having a wonderful time . See ad on page 2B .
Many young people are putting their final touches on 4-H projects as they prepare for the Dearborn County 4-H Fair June 18 to 23 . May the responsibilities they have gained in this process continue to impact their lives moving forward .
All Saints Parish Youth traveled to Louisville , Kentucky on a mission trip to help serve the community and evangelize in the name of the Lord . The theme of their trip was , “ Be the Salt and Light .” What a wonderful experience for the youth of our community . May they continue to live their lives with a spirit of service and good will .
Carole Jean Schuler , of Batesville , Indiana ( formerly of Dover , Indiana ) passed peacefully into eternal life on May 9 at the age of 83 . She leaves behind a devoted family and many friends . She leaves her loving daughters , Debbie Lecher of Batesville and Dawn ( Chris ) Merkel of Delaware , Indiana . She also leaves her granddaughter Crystal ( Josh ) Hannebaum of Peppertown , and one grandson Kenny Lecher of Batesville . She had one great-grand-child Malia Hannebaum . She leaves behind her brother , Keith Mergenthal , of Bath , IN , and her sister Alice ( Butch ) Seals of Liberty , IN . Carole was preceded in death by her husband Kenny Schuler . Condolences to her family and friends .
As the summer days continue , may we experience the sun every step of the way . May we all find ways to share our own sunshine by speaking a kind word , doing a good deed , or just being present for someone .
