Mark and Leah Schmidl have been married for twenty-five years . new alsace @ goBEACONnews . com
Thank you to everyone who has expressed their kind words since I ’ ve also taken over as the New Alsace community correspondent . I always enjoyed Maxine Klump ’ s articles and hope that I can fill her shoes ( although they are big shoes to fill )! Mrs . Klump was my fifthgrade teacher , and I hope that she ’ s smiling down on me , knowing one of her former students has taken over her monthly articles .
Family reunions are a time to reminisce with relatives we may not see as often as we ’ d like and celebrate special events that have transpired through the years . In April , a Knueven family reunion was held at the New Alsace American Legion where the family celebrated Monsignor Harold Knueven ’ s sixtieth year in the priesthood !
Msgr . Knueven was ordained a priest at Archabbey in St . Meinrad , Ind . in May 1958 . He said his first mass after his ordination at St . Paul ’ s church in New Alsace and had the privilege of his nieces and nephews being part of the procession .
During the family reunion , Msgr . Knueven , along with his nieces and nephews , posed for a picture in the same order as they were during his first mass . Pictured are Susan ( Knueven ) Wong , Jolene ( Rauch ) Wendell , Shirley ( Knueven ) Beetz , Dan Knueven , Msgr . Harold Knueven , Leacarol ( Knueven ) Bennett , Jana ( Rauch ) Walborn , James Knueven , and John Knueven . Missing are Mary ( Knueven ) Richards and Elaine Knueven .
Congratulations to Mark and Leah Schmidl on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary ! They were married May 22 , 1993 , at St . Paul ’ s church in New Alsace . Together they have raised five children : Veronica , Andrew , John , Anna , and Mary . To celebrate this special occasion , the family is planning a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine this summer .
