Last month ’ s question was , “ What building was located in the same place as the Old Bank , which is currently used as apartments , prior to the 1905 fire ?” Shirley Campbell responded , “ The Brinkman Hotel ,” which is the correct answer . Congratulations Shirley !
This month ’ s question is , “ Who founded the first Blacksmith shop in Sunman ?”

The March for Our Lives rallies were held across our nation on March 24 . I do not intend to make a political statement , but I cannot ignore the fact that our youth are forcing us to pay attention . A nationwide walk-out was encouraged to honor the victims of the school shooting which occurred one month earlier . I want to share a letter that was sent to parents of students at Milan High School by Principal Ryan Langferman , concerning how MHS would deal with the walk-out .
Mr . Langferman addressed the parents by stating , “ As you may be aware , today , March 14 , was promoted nationally as a student walk-out day . Students were encouraged by media outlets to walk out of school at 10 a . m . for seventeen minutes in honor of the seventeen victims from the Stoneman- Douglas HS shooting in Parkland , Florida and voice their opinions on random acts of violence and gun control . After talking to our student leaders at Milan High School earlier this week , we decided to honor the movement with a moment of silence at 10 am for the Stoneman Douglas victims . After the moment of silence , students were allowed to share their thoughts with their teachers and classmates in a classroom discussion while sitting in their thirdperiod class . Discussions were monitored by teachers and encouraged to focus on the curriculum based civics lesson rather than an opinion of right and wrong . I was very proud of our students ’ behavior during this demonstration and feel that the event allowed students to have a voice while maintaining
a safe environment ...” He encouraged the parents to call if they had any questions .
A fresh new look is planned for Milan this summer . The box culvert by the elementary school is scheduled to be rebuilt after the school year ends , which will result in that road being closed for a few weeks . Upon completion of that project , the paving of ten streets in Milan will begin . Milan was a recipient of a Community Crossings grant from the State of Indiana which made the resurfacing project possible .
