That breaks down to $86.13 per person. That’s a lot of candy, decora- tions, hayrides, pumpkin patch adventures and costumes! We eat differently in the fall of the year. We lay in supplies of pumpkin anything- pie, coffee, tea, muffins…. this year was different for me. I wanted homemade marshmal- lows! This summer on a trip to Michigan, I was inspired by a food truck that sold home- made marshmallows. I must admit the thought of making my own marshmallows has worn on my psyche. I think we all have those things that we did not get done over the summer that need to be taken care of before winter. It was heavenly. These marshmallows will go well with our family tradition of a bonfire on Thanksgiving Day. I took a nice walk through downtown Lawrenceburg on a partially sunny, slightly windy Sunday recently. Most stores were open, music was playing in the streets, and lots of peo- ple were enjoying food and shopping. The new downtown park is well underway, and the construction of the new stage is taking shape. I saw Jana Vaughan at an event. Casey’s Outdoor Solutions had a beautiful rusty old truck full of hay and flowers on display. Down the Jana Vaughn street, I ran into shop owner Linda Sefton perched on a ladder rearranging a display. She gave me a smile for a Beacon photo. The SE Linda Sefton Indiana Feed the Hungry packing event was recently held in Aurora. This event packed over 35,000 Nutri- vitamin packs that will ben- efit St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. The nutrients in these packets lessen the occur- rence of sickness, respiratory illnesses, and diarrhea. The meals were packed by over one hundred volunteers in a little over one hour. I came late that day to volunteer and hoped to relieve some of the elderly members. Too late— they were already finished. The Lawrenceburg Tigers had their ups and down this fall. The football team lost their sectional game to Bates- ville. The soccer team won their sectional game but had a disappointing loss at region- als. Everyone agreed that they played their best. November and December hold the promise of lots to do in Lawrenceburg. You won’t want to miss Breakfast with Santa, ice skating, shopping, and Christmas open houses. Grab a cookbook at the library for the instructions on how to make yourself some homemade marshmallows for a cold winter night by the fire. RISING SUN/ OHIO COUNTY Rising Sun boys soccer team for their first Sectional Crown since 2000. Coach Robert Keinhofer’s crew had a season record of 12-3-3. The Shiners then added a thirteenth victory in the first game of the regional. Also, congratulations to Dalton Vinup for his outstanding performance in the cross country sectional. He earned all-conference honors in the ORVC. World War II Veteran Bush White, was the Grand Marshal of the Navy Bean Festival this year. He is still very active and travels Highway 56 daily. Once again the Conductors of the Southeastern Indiana Model Trains will be having their amazing train display at the Heritage Hall. It’s well worth the time to see so many trains going around the tracks. I really enjoyed the dinner at At the Barn Winery hosted by Beacon owner, Tamara Taylor. The correspondents all enjoyed meeting each other and discussing so many things we enjoy about the Beacon. The food came from Logan Supermart across the street. I eat there often with my World War II buddy, Lawrence Lyttle. I didn’t win the Mega Millions or the Powerball. It’s hard to imagine a jackpot of $1.6 billion and $750 million. I already had plans to claim it anonymously and even took the precaution of buying tickets in Tennessee on my way home from the Smokies. I stopped at Maryville, TN to see Marcella Moon and her daughter, Deb. Marcella is 102½ years old. I told her she’s like a radio station- 102.5! Her son, Bob, and I grew up together. Coming next April 8, she will be 103. Time to start thinking about Thanksgiving. We all have so many opportunities. May God Bless all of you with good health and prosperity. By PG Gentrup Community Correspondent [email protected] The cooler weather has arrived and I’ve been enjoying it. I attended my granddaughter Carli’s softball games that she plays with Ava Cutter (the Splash Sisters). We were able to travel to Madison, IN with grandkids, Carli, Grady, and Coleton for Fall Break. I’m the first generation of my family not to live in Madison since 1852. The next week we met the two grandkids from Indy, Kaden and Alexandra, with their mom and dad in Gatlinburg. We were just coming off the parkway from Pigeon Forge and rounding the bend when Paula told me she hoped we would see a bear for the kids. It wasn’t ten seconds later, I told her to roll down her window and shake hands with one because momma bear was climbing up on the handrail on the bridge and her cub was just below her. Grady’s soccer team, the Aurora Wolfpack, had an undefeated season, including the tournament, for the 10U team in SAY Soccer. They were coached by Chrissy Meek and Brandi Rogers. Miss Lucky Lady, the new Rising Sun Ferry Boat, is now in operation. Come down to visit our town. You can enjoy a meal, and as long as the weather holds out, you can eat a picnic on our beautiful riverfront and visit our Veterans Tribute Tower. The Kinderballet will be coming to Rising Sun at Heritage Hall on Dec. 1. Congratulations to the Ready for Better B a nk ing ? You can always...
