Dearborn County 2017 Women of Distinction
The twelfth annual Dear-
born County Women of
Distinction Awards honoring
three individuals for their con-
tributions to the community.
These women were chosen
based on the positive impact
they have had on Dearborn
County and their ability to
inspire others to work toward
bettering the region.
The 2017 recipients of the
Women of Distinction Award
recipients are Lynn Deddens,
MaryAlice Horton, and Jody
Maples.
The first recipient this year
is Dearborn and Ohio County
prosecuting attorney Lynn
Deddens. Ms. Deddens has
lived in the area all of her
life and is an active member
of Tri-Kappa and All Saints
Church. She has also served
as President of the Dearborn
Ohio County United Way and
president of the Dearborn
Ohio County Bar Association.
She began her career in the
prosecutor’s office as victim’s
advocate fifteen years ago.
Last year Ms. Deddens be-
came the Prosecuting Attorney
for the area. She is a dedicated
and accomplished woman
and truly is deserving of this
honor.
The second recipient is the
Director of the Aurora Public
Library District, MaryAlice
Horton. In her thirty-five
years at the Aurora Library,
Ms. Horton has expanded
access to the library through-
out the various townships in
the county. She also oversaw
the renovation of the Au-
rora branch, establi shed new
facilities in Dillsboro, and
Moores Hill, and stabilized
the district's funding in a time
of crisis. Ms. Horton led and
participated in the planning of
many collaborative initiatives
countywide from Miracle on
Main Street to Black, White
and Read. Her dedication to
her community makes her a
Dearborn County Woman of
Distinction.
The third recipient of the
Women of Distinction Award
is the youth services manager
of the Lawrenceburg Public
Library District, Jody Maples.
She has been with the library
for thirty-five years. Ms. Ma-
ples has focused on fostering
a life-long love of reading for
children of all ages. She has
spent much of her time work-
ing with schools, businesses
and other local organizations
to promote literacy and devel-
op relationships that proved to
be beneficial to area students.
Ms. Maples has served on the
Indiana State-Wide Summer
Reading Program committee,
has presented at several con-
ferences on the importance
of youth services in librar-
ies, and has chaired the Ohio
Kentucky Indiana Children’s
literature conference on mul-
tiple occasions. She served on
the I Love Lawrenceburg, Fall
Fest, Relay For Life, Winter
Wonderland, and Step Ahead
committees. In 2014 Ms.
Maples was recognized by
the Greater Cincinnati Char-
acter Council as a Hero of
Character for her community
work. Her impact and efforts
to make Dearborn County
excited about education and
literacy make her a Woman of
Distinction.
The annual Trunk or
Treat is being held at North
Dearborn Elementary
School on Sawmill Road.
This much-anticipated event
will be on Friday, Oct. 20
beginning at 6 P.M. and
lasts until 8 P.M. or until
the sweet treats run out.
Trick or Trunk is sponsored
by the North Dearborn
Elementary School's Parent
Teacher Association.
Last year over six
hundred children attended
Trunk or Treat and enjoyed
this fun, free event. The
Bright Lions Club will be
there with treats for all of
the trick-or-treaters, and the
mascot of the Bright Lions
will be there to entertain
everyone.

star award. “She takes her
studies very seriously and
always tries her best.”
Charlee is a junior at
Batesville High School and is
working toward the comple-
