M

DEAR

ARIE

By Marie Segale

Dear Marie ,
I am a divorced mom with two kids , a boy eight years old and a girl six years old . This will be our first Halloween without their dad being with us for trick or treating . My ex-husband and I both want to go trick or treating with our kids . I ’ m looking for a solution , Marie what do you think ?
Donna from Sunman
Dear Donna ,
Depending on the distance between you and your ex-husband , you could split the evening and spend half of the time at one house and half of the time at the other . Then you could plan on ending the evening at the house where the children are staying that night . Or another reasonable solution would be for you and your ex-husband to go together with the kids to trick or treat at one of your houses . That would certainly be easier for the kids and reassuring for them to see mom and dad putting them first and making it special for them .

Is the Market at its Peak ?
Wednesday , March 1 , 2017 was a great day for the U . S . Stock Market . The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 303 points to close above 21,000 for the first time ever . 1 Unfortunately , the joy from this historical occasion was short lived as many investors turned pessimistic , predicting an eminent market correction . Why ? As humans , we instinctually look to where the next threat might come from or what could cause us harm in the future , even when no current threat exists . Although beneficial for survival , this type of attitude is what prevents many investors from realizing the incredible compounding effects of market returns .
Is the market due for a correction ?
Predicting a market correction is hardly a predication at all . The market averages a 10 % correction on a yearly basis . Simply stated , my answer to this question is that I don ’ t know . Some market analysts want you to believe that they can predict a market correction , but no one knows what is going to happen tomorrow . Don ’ t misinterpret what I am saying . It is important to pay attention to earnings records , P / E ratios , and trends , but it ’ s hard to predict when the next world political event will happen and how it will affect the market . Let me tell you what I do know , and what markets have done in my lifetime .
In January 1987 , two years after I started Conservative Financial Solutions , I saw the Dow close above 2,000 for the first time . Nine years later , I watched it cross 5,000 on November 21 , 1995 . Since then , I ’ ve seen it

hit 10,000 , 15,000 , and now it ’ s above 21,000 . 2 I fully expect this trend to continue over time . Do not allow yourself to be distracted by what is happening in the short-term , the long-term trend of the market is the key to successful investing .
Where to focus .
The real focus of long term investing needs to be on the financial goals you are trying to achieve and your ability to tolerate risk . Investing in the market is not for the weak minded and the faint of heart . It takes patience and planning .
I recommend the first step of investing is to set your financial
goals . Once your goals are set , and written down , the second step is determine how much risk you ’ re willing to accept . There are ways to be invested in the market without taking on the full risk of the market . Once you have focused on the first two steps , this is a good time to start working with a financial professional to help guide you further with your financial goals . This is an area where my firm , Conservative Financial Solutions , LLC , specializes .
One of the most important parts of my job is helping my clients get through the difficult times . No investor is going to be able to achieve their goals if they pull out of the market every time there is a little hiccup . When investing in the market , it is essential to keep emotions in check and keep with the set plan for long-term financial goals . This will lead investors to realize the incredible compounding effects of market returns .
