Purchase Agreement for Port Location Extended
Yet another step has been taken to
bring the fourth Indiana port to Dear-
born County.
The option to purchase land near
Lawrenceburg was set to expire on
Dec. 31, 2018. A new agreement
between Ports of Indiana and Tanners
Creek Development, LLC was signed
by Governor Eric Holcomb to extend
the agreement for six months through
June 30, 2019.
Tanners Creek Development, LLC
owns 725 acres of land upon which
the site of the port has been proposed.
The property was formerly the loca-
tion of the retired coal-fired power
plant from Indiana Michigan Power
(I&M), a unit of the American Electric
Power plant (AEP).
Upon the original purchase of
the site, Commercial Development
Company (CDC) and Environmen-
tal Liability Transfer, Inc. assumed
responsibility for environmental
liabilities associated with the site. Cur-
rently, Tanners Creek Development,
LLC, a subsidiary of CDC, is working
on finalizing environmental market-

were recently awarded Community
Crossings Matching Grant program
from the Indiana Department of Trans-
portation. The grants awarded in this
area totaled over $5,000,000.
The Community Crossings Match-
ing Grant program provides funding
to Indiana cities, towns, and counties
for improvements to local roads and
bridges. The goal of this program is to
help communities invest in improve-
ments to infrastructure and promote
economic development while creating
jobs and strengthening local transpor-
tation routes.

Area Artists Pour Their Hearts and Souls into Work

Southeastern Indiana has an abundance of artists, but their
art won’t be found at the mall, and their faces won’t smile at
you from glossy sales inserts. Instead, these creative neigh-
bors can be found volunteering in classrooms, working in
area hospitals, and shopping at local grocery stores. From
wood turners to soap makers, photographers to jewelry
designers, many talented Hoosiers have devoted years to,
and invested much of their hard-earned, day-job income in,
developing their skills and learning their craft.
Batesville metal sculptor and repoussé artist Chaz Kaiser
loves the creativity that goes into all of his work, but he isn’t
comfortable with the ‘artist’ moniker. He recalls a conversa-
tion with a friend, “I said I don’t care for the term, being
called an artist, because I don’t think that I am. When I think
artist, I think Rembrandt, van Gogh, Michelangelo, and I
don’t think I fit in there … so she says maybe a better word
for you is a Creative, as a noun.”
Rebecca Davies is a painter and co-founder of a gallery
in Dillsboro. She says, “There are artists that have been
working their whole life, that are constantly working at
getting better and taking it to the best level they possibly
can. In your life, do something that really has meaning.
