ARIE

Dear Marie
I am a 77-year-old woman and have been invited to a very special family wedding . I don ’ t want to embarrass anyone with my old fashioned style , but I don ’ t want to look twenty either . I would like to dress stylishly and comfortably without breaking the bank . Marie , what do you suggest ?
Myrna from Manchester
Dear Myrna ,
At 77 you have become one of the elders of the family . That gives you the leeway to dress as you please . Of course , you want to be wedding appropriate , and being comfortable is always a priority . As for not breaking the bank , you can find some great pieces at designer consignment shops and even at Goodwill stores . You may find the main piece or even an outfit there and use the savings to complete your look at a department store , specialty shop , or boutique . Or you could search through your current wardrobe for a start to an outfit and finish putting it together at the consignment shop or your favorite specialty shop .
Dear Marie , I have an heirloom armoire in my home that was given to my husband and me by his mother . She was very clear that the armoire is special to her and that it was to always stay in the family , meaning with her son .
My husband and I divorced two years ago . When he was taking his things from the house , he said he did not want the armoire . I do not wish to keep my ex-mother-in-law ' s armoire . Calling her to see if she wants it back is out of the question for me . However , I would like to have it out of my house . Marie , what do you think I should do ?
Deanna from Yorkville
Dear Deanna , I realize that your exmother-in-law made it clear that she wants the armoire to stay in her family . However , if you are not on speaking terms with her , perhaps a relative might intervene and ask her if she wants it back . Do you have grown children who might appreciate having a family heirloom in their home ? Do you really have no way of keeping it in the family ? After exploring all of your options , you could then feel free to look for a new home for the armoire . You could sell it of course , and even consider giving the money to charity ; you could give it to a charitable organization , St . Vincent De Paul , Goodwill , or the Salvation Army , to name a few .
One more idea to consider - if the situation were reversed and your ex-daughter-in-law had your family heirloom , would you want her to make sure you had the choice to have your precious family heirloom back in your possession ? Have a pressing issue ? Contact Marie @ goBEACONnews . com

From a dogs point of view

By : Puma & Tammy Turner
Hi friends , it ’ s me Puma talking to you about shelter life .
You know I ’ m always talking about how great it is here at the shelter . Don ’ t get me wrong , they take very good care of us and love us
Puma
a lot , but it ’ s not like having a real home . At 5:00 when everyone here goes home to their own families , that ’ s when the loneliness sets in . I remember what it was like to go and lay at my owner ’ s feet . To get a good morning hug and a kiss good night . To lay in bed with my owners . But that was all before I came into the shelter as a stray . I really don ’ t understand why my owner didn ’ t come to look for me . I don ’ t remember doing anything that bad to have been left behind . But we all wonder that when our caretakers go home , and we are left behind .
Alice wonders if she barked too much , but as a coonhound , she was just pointing out all the squirrels and rabbits ( and occasionally a cat or two ). Andy wonders if it was because he loved to play in his water bowl , ( he loves water- he ' s always the first one to get into the pool ), or if it was just because he was getting too old . Votto thinks they just didn ’ t have enough patience to keep up with all of his energy , but he is just a seven-month-old pit puppy . BamBam says if his old owners could only see him now and realize that he had allergies and that the medication is really helping him . We all wonder what we did , or why they couldn ’ t take us with them when they moved . We are all really good dogs , and some of us just need a little training . But most of all , we just need your patience . We will do whatever you ask us to do . Our new owners just need the patience to see what works best for us . Take Bailey for instance- she loves her squeaky ball ( she even sleeps with it ). Silky is very shy and just needs to have a home that is quiet , where she
can just lay in her bed . Zoey needs a lot of room to run because , being a lab , she has a lot of energy . Sugar loves to play ball , so someone that loves to toss would be very good for her . Dionne just wants to be close to her owner , she ’ s quiet and loving . And Merritt is a goofy male coonhound who just loves to smile ; he is always happy and smiling .
As you can see , we all have our own little traits , but we all have one thing in common … we will give you unconditional love and be loyal until the end of our lives . The caretakers here at the shelter tell us all the time that there is someone for everyone … I just wish my someone would come soon . I promise you won ’ t be disappointed .
Bye , take care of your pets , and have them spayed and neutered .
Can you name these bus drivers from East Central ?
