A sign of summer coming to an end is the diminishing number of church festivals and fried chicken dinners . The chickens in the area are feeling a bit relieved , but their cousins , the turkeys , are getting nervous . All Saints Parish is very grateful for all those individuals and families who attended their three summer festivals . Each campus festival was a success , each in its own way . These festivals would not be possible without the many volunteers and the support of our wonderful community . At each festival , I volunteer along with a group of friends and parishioners , in the Big Money Raffle booth . Each year we give away a total of $ 14,000 , two early bird drawings of $ 2000 each , and one final drawing of $ 10,000 . The final prize is given away at the last festival , the St . Paul Campus festival . This year , at the St . Paul Festival , I had a nice conversation with some old friends , Greg and Janelle Stenger , and their daughters . They came out for dinner and to tour the Last Supper exhibit .
After the Stengers and I parted , a couple visiting from Jennings County came up to the booth and were interested in buying some tickets to win the Big Money . While they were buying their tickets , they had some questions about the Annual Pilgrimage our parish takes to the Holy Land . Since I went on the pilgrimage in 2017 , I was able to share some of the highlights of my trip with them . They were very friendly and appreciative and stated that the $ 10,000 would come in handy to help pay for the trip . After they walked away , my friend , Greg Stenger , came back to the

O ur booth and wanted to know if I remembered the name of the couple that just bought the tickets . I did remember and shared their last name . To show how small the world is , the wife from the Jennings County couple and Greg Stenger ’ s wife , Janelle , had been college roommates at Indiana University . They had not seen each other since they graduated college , approximately twenty-five years ago . They ended up meeting up at the festival and caught up with each other before they parted . Greg said they send each other Christmas cards every year , but have not seen each other since college . I was amazed to have witnessed this reunion . To make this story even more terrific , the couple from Jennings County , interested in going to the Holy Land , ended up winning the $ 10,000 on Sunday night . I hope they get the opportunity to experience the Holy Land . I can ’ t wait to hear about their experience .

On September 20 , my parents , Chuck and Thelma , will celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary . In today ’ s world or any world , that is a true accomplishment of dedication , commitment , and love .

They have been and continue to be role models for our family and community . May they experience many more great years together . Congratulations Mom and Dad !
Bob and Marlene Graf will celebrate their forty-third wedding anniversary on Sept . 20 .
Just a note to end on … I was reading an article the other day , and the person explained that we never know what struggles or battles other people are experiencing in their daily lives . Her remedy was , “ Be a flashlight .” When you witness someone having a bad or a dark day , be the light in their lives … a bit of kindness goes a long way . Kind people are my kind of people .

Did you know that Moores Hill once was home to one of six co-educational colleges in the country ? The community was once a thriving town with a grist mill , a Studebaker dealership , hotels , and grocery stores . This little town is rich in history .
Carnegie Hall , located in Moores Hill , is listed on the National Register of Historic Places . It was built in 1908 when Indiana itself was not yet a century old . Education was highly valued and was considered indispensable for progress . In 1854 local community leaders in Moores Hill began pursuing the opportunity for a local college . The result was Carnegie Hall which was completed in 1908 .

If I were to plan a day for you in Dillsboro , a Saturday would be perfect . First get up early meet the walkers and runners at Dillsboro Arts , walk a mile or two with friends , come back for coffee and view the exhibit , “ One Doctor , Two Teachers , Three Artists .” Then browse around town , picking up some goodies . Have lunch at a local restaurant , then go to the Civic Center to reminisce about your school days and those long past at the sports-themed pop-up museum .
Find time to pack a cooler , lawn chairs , and any young children you might be associated with , and settle in for a night of music and fun on the lawn for the evening . Whatever your musical preference , you will enjoy yourself .
You can hear live music with friends , bring your beverages , eat something interesting from a food truck , have homemade dessert , check out antique cars , and watch children run and play freely with the loving eyes of the community watching out for them . … so that ’ s just Saturday !
Dillsboro was the recipient of REMC Operation Roundup Grants which will help fund an interior / exterior sound system , a watercraft for ice and water rescue , and a shelter protecting our Legacy Project Well No . 2 .
