ump has the skills and abilities of an MLB ump. That’s like saying every coach has the skills of an MLB coach. The lower you go the more inconsistencies you as a coach, player and parent will have to deal with. Live with it. It’s a fact so get over it.

In general, most umps try to get it right. But they have bad days too. They don’t feel well, hungry, had a fight with their wife or children, bad day at their regular job…whatever. Not to say this gives them a “free pass” to make mistakes, just understand he might be having a bad day himself. Most of the time it isn’t personal and usually will admit if they missed a call.

The most issues will be in rec ball or teener league where

the umps are usually kids (14-18yr olds). They need the

help of a coach vs. getting yelled at. And for the parents

and fans at those games – just shut up. They are learning

and will mistakes. Just like your child in the field will

make mistakes so will these young umps.

Remember, umps are human just like us and aren’t

perfect – mistakes will happen. If you think you can

do better - become an ump.
