From the Board We asked The Atlanta Bar Association Board "What is one of your favorite places to do community service?" L AWYER R EFERRAL I NFORMATION S ERVICE & LRIS REFER CALLS TO Remember, if your firm receives those occasional calls regarding legal issues that you do not handle, refer them to the Lawyer Referral and Information Service. 404-521-0777 atlantabar.org Gino Brodgon, Jr., The Brogdon Firm My favorite place to do community service is Habitat for Humanity. I love this organization because you get to work with the people who will be living in the house you are helping build. The ability to engage and work hard with the recipient of the service is incredibly reward- ing and makes the experience extremely personal and memorable. Caren Cloud, Truancy Intervention Project Georgia My favorite place to do community service: a metro area school, working directly with students or improving school grounds. Lisa K. Liang, Hon. Susan E. Edlein, State Court of Fulton County I hadn’t thought about the collateral consequences of incarceration until I got involved with Foreverfamily. Foreverfamily, led by attorney Sandra Barnhill for 30 years now, surrounds children with an incarcer- ated parent, with the love of family. A component of Ff is to help maintain the bond between the children and their incarcerated parent by taking them monthly to visit their parent. I am going again on a trip on November 11 – please join me or contact Ff directly through foreverfam.org or [email protected]. GAWL organizes volunteers to prepare and serve dinner at Nicholas House, which helps families to become self-sufficient and to find homes. Nicholas House is an inspiring place: the families who live there face adversity with hope, dignity, and hard work. GAWL is committed to providing dinner at Nicholas House on the second Wednesday of each month. If you are interested in helping GAWL with the Wednesday night dinners, you can sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/ go/30e0f4baeae28a7f85-gawl. Ashley Wilson, Shingler Lewis The Bard Show! The largest fundraiser to support the charitable work of the Atlanta Bar Foundation. Shawn Shepard, Smith & Carson I’m a longtime member of The Junior League of Atlanta, and through the years, I’ve volunteered with various JLA community partners. Among other things, I’ve painted homes for Rebuilding Together, cleared privet for Park Pride, organized a children’s event for Georgia Shakespeare, boxed groceries for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and handed out candy at Zoo Atlanta’s Boo at the Zoo.
