a courthouse line Bard Questions By The Honorable Sara Doyle, Teresa Bonder, Terrence Lee Croft, and The Honorable T. Jackson Bedford, Jr. The Honorable Sara Doyle What was your favorite character to play and why? While it is hard not to pick my lip-singing Britney Spear's character, my favorite was a suspected murderer in Death By CLE. Not only did we get to dance to Chicago's Cell Block Tango, but it is the only show where I actually got to sing. What was your favorite scene? "Brief Writing" (a/k/a Greased Lightning), the Act I finale in my first show. We sang and danced to this great Grease song and I got to dance with Kevin Wilson who threw me over his shoulder and around his back only to catch me in his arms. It was too much fun. Teresa Bonder What was your favorite character to play and why? One year I played a nerdy associate in a big law firm who was recruited by a television station to become a news commentator on legal issues. The news station then turned my character from an innocent associate into a flashy, blonde, busty, short-skirted, high-heeled star. And the change was made onstage, like on the show “The Swan.” Ultimately, my character rejected the fast life, and her new flashy boyfriend, to return to the simple, honest life of being a lawyer in a big law firm. Lots of fun. What was worst thing that happened to you on stage? Dancing in the background while Judge Chris McFadden performed hip hop to an Emimem song... Just joking, Chris, I loved those karate moves! I have never had a bad thing happen on stage. We are all there to have fun, so even when the lights don't come up on cue or someone forgets a line, it all works out. Fortunately as a backup dancer, no one really knows when I mess up. Why do you do the show? The people. The opportunity to dance and sing. And of course, for the good cause. But mostly, to get to hang around the cast. Why should people come to see the show? The show has something for everyone. And unlike traditional musicals, this one is written for and about our Georgia lawyers, judges and mediators. The cast is really talented and it’s for a great cause. The Official News Publication of the Atlanta Bar Association What was your favorite scene? I love the big dancing musical scenes. The year we did “Greased Lightning” (called “Brief Writing” in the show) from the musical “Grease” was a real highlight because the music was good and the dancers (other than me!) were amazing. Another year, we did the Michael Jackson song “Thriller” (“Biller” in the show). Great singing and dancing in that one too. Those scenes are as fun for us as they are for the audience. Oh yes, and “Cell Block Tango” from “Chicago.” Another great one. October 2013 THE ATLANTA LAWYER 13
