“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” Dr. Seuss
The ACYL has a lot to smile about as the Bar year comes to an
end. We hosted the Life of the Trial CLE series, the Life of the
Lawyer CLE series, the Life of a Deal CLE, monthly Mentoring
Breakfasts, happy hours, and co-sponsored numerous special
events. Members were also given the opportunity to learn
about pro bono activities and participate in the AVLF Saturday
Lawyer Program. On top of all of these activities, the ACYL
raised $26,530.00 for pro bono legal organizations through
the Associates’ Campaign! I want to say a special thank you
to all members who participated in the events or contributed
to the Associates Campaign.
As the year comes to a close, the ACYL is excited to announce
publicly the recipients of the Kerry Harike Joedecke Atlanta
Young Lawyer of the Year Award. This Award is given to
a member of the ACYL who has an outstanding record of
leadership, service, and dedication to the Section. This
year the Award is being given to Jamie Anne Perez and

Matthew J. Simmons. Jamie practices family law at Holland
Roddenbery, and has been instrumental in establishing and
planning the monthly Mentoring Breakfasts. Matt is a business
attorney at Shepherd Law, LLC, and chaired the Associates
Campaign. Both Jamie and Matt are more than deserving
of this award, and the ACYL had a successful year thanks to
their contributions.
I would also like to thank the members of the ACYL Executive
Committee and Board of Directors who worked tirelessly this
year to plan events and ensure the success of the ACYL.
Finally, please help us celebrate the end of the successful year
and the beginning of the new year with a Party on May 27,
2015 at Monday Night Brewing. The ACYL is co-sponsoring
this event with the Litigation Section, and it promises to be a
great event. For $10, Section Members will receive a souvenir
pint glass with drink tickets, beer tasting, and a tour of the
brewery, all while enjoying live music from Escape Vehicle. I
hope to see you there!
