United States District Court Judge Richard W . Story , Emory University professor , historian Joseph Crespino and lawyer Joseph M . Beck , author of “ My Father and Atticus Finch ”, led an interesting discussion on Atticus Finch : Who Was He ? Who Is He ? at the Emory University law school on March 2 , 2017 . The Atlanta Bar Association Continuing Legal Education program was well attended by lawyers and law students and presented various perspectives on the “ To Kill A Mockingbird ” character and the impact Finch has had as a champion of racial justice and as an inspiration to aspiring lawyers . At the conclusion of the discussion , Judge Story performed the closing argument from the trial in “ To Kill a Mockingbird ” as Atticus Finch , a role he formerly played at the Holly Theatre in Dahlonega Theatre in 2007 .
