section update Litigation Section By Hon. Leigh May United States District Judge, Northern District of Georgia T he Litigation Section continues with a great slate of programs for this year. On the second Friday of every month, the Litigation Section has its breakfast and CLE programs. They take place at 7:30 a.m. at the Ansley Golf Club. On December 12, at a joint meeting with the Small Firm and Solo Practitioner Section, Randy Kessler spoke on the subject of family law for lawyers who do not practice family law. On January 9, 2015, we continued our breakfast series with a joint meeting with the Dispute Resolution Section. Halsey Knapp moderated a panel discussion with F. Carlton King, Jr., Jeffrey Horst, and Patrick Jones on Business Disputes and Divorces. On February 13 in a joint meeting with the Atlanta Council of Younger Lawyers, Chief Justice Thompson and Paula Frederick will speak on a topic that qualifies for ethics credit. The breakfasts continue through May. In February, we host Take Your Adversary to Lunch. This program encourages collegiality in the bar by creating a chance for litigants to know their adversaries better and in a more informal setting. Participants will be eligible to win a Buckhead Life gift certificate. This promises to be a great event, and we hope you plan on attending. Other Section events include the Meet the Judges luncheon scheduled for March 20, 2015 at the Capital City Club, and the Bench and Bar reception scheduled for May 12, 2015 at Nelson, Mullins. Please mark your calendars for both events. The Litigation Section would like to thank our sponsors for their support. They are ATS (Applied Technology Services); Esquire Solutions; Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP; JAMS; and The Partners Group. The Section is also pleased to announce a new sponsor – Duplicating Products. Duplicating Products sells, leases and services copiers for law firms. As part of the Section’s judicial outreach efforts, we continue to offer free admission for all judges and judicial law clerks who wish to attend our functions. On February 20, 2015, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at King & Spalding, the Litigation Section will host its annual CLE. This CLE will feature a panel of federal judges and a panel of state court judges. Following both judicial panels, a panel of attorneys will discuss the guidance provided by the judges with the CLE concluding at 12:15 p.m. The Official News Publication of the Atlanta Bar Association January/February 2015 THE ATLANTA LAWYER 31
