December 2017 / January 2018
During our breakfast meetings at the Buckhead Club
this past fall, section members heard excellent and
informative presentations from attorney Patricia
Ammari (new power of attorney statute), Keith Nabb
of Affordable Medicare Solutions (Medicare), and
attorney Anson Asbury (tax issues facing seniors).
In the coming months, we are looking forward to
presentations from attorney Jeffrey Warncke (insur-
ance issues), Ned Morgens of Skylark Senior Care
and attorney Diane Weinberg (Medicaid waivers and
community services), Dr. Laura Jalbert of Mindful
Transitions (senior counseling and social services),
and Lisa Brown (Brightworth) and attorney Robert
Port (pros and cons of annuities).
Joint Programs
Together with the Estate Planning and Probate Sec-
tion and the Financial Planning Association of Geor-
gia, on February 1 the Elder Law Section is honored
to sponsor “Planning for the Decades of Life,” a
seminar that follows a family from their 20s through
age 100 as it grows, splits, saves, spends and plans.
The panel discussion will address issues involving
blended families, adults growing old and declining,
and making limited funds work for a lifetime. We
will hear perspectives from Matt Barber, president
of the Financial Planning Association of Georgia,
two top attorneys in the fields of estate planning
(Mark Williamson) and estate/elder/special needs
planning (Sarah Watchko), and an attorney/CPA tax
specialist (Murray Saylor). The event will be held
at the offices of Signature FD.
On May 15, the Elder Law Section will jointly spon-
sor a luncheon with the Estate Planning and Probate
Section on divorce and trust law issues featuring
two prominent attorneys, Craig Frankel and Tony
Turner, at Maggiano’s in Buckhead.
