SECTION UPDATES PUBLIC INTEREST LAW The Public Interest Law Section (PILS) is gearing up for an exciting fall. The section is dedicated to furthering the practice and perception of law, with a focus on public interest law. As such, PILS regularly hosts educational programs, outreach and networking initiatives, and community service opportunities. We welcome all lawyers with an interest in equal access to justice for impoverished people. T h e P I L S’s fo c u s for 2 0 1 9 - 2 0 2 0 i s increasing collaboration between nonprofit legal providers, the judiciary, law firms, corporations, and individual members to advance public interest law in Atlanta. In October, PILS will be hosting a Nonprofit Summit for nonprofit legal services providers in Atlanta to share information about each organization’s mission and priorities and to share information and best practices for case referral protocols, and effective client services. The Summit will provide a wonderful opportunity for networking and learning more about each organization’s work for the Atlanta community. In addition to the Nonprofit Summit, PILS will be hosting a service project and social where members and non-members can network and learn more about the great public interest law work in Atlanta’s legal community. contact Aarti Sharma, past PILS chair at [email protected]. PILS wa also excited to co-sponsor the Atlanta Bar Association’s Legal Runaround 5K Race held on September 7, 2019 at John Howell Park as well as the End of Summer Band Party that was held on Thursday, September 12 at Terminal West. The Legal Runaround 5K Race benefits the Atlanta Bar Association Police Scholarship Fund, and the End of Summer Band Party benefits the Atlanta Bar Association Grants Program. We hope to see many of you there! Most of the PILS events are open to the legal community; however, section embers enjoy discounted or free admission to many events. Please consider joining our section today or sponsoring one of our events! Membership for individuals is only $10.00 per year; law firms can join for $500.00 per firm. In addition to sponsorships, PILS is also in the process of planning a service project and several socials for members and non- members to network and share the work of the section and our members.
