SECTION UPDATE
ENVIRONMENTAL AND TOXIC TORT
The mission of the Environmental & Toxic Tort Section
(ETTS) is to provide a platform for continuing education
on key developments of interest to its membership through
CLEs and e-blasts, collaboration with other sections of the
Atlanta Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Association,
contribution to the community, and fostering camarade-
rie among those practicing or having an interest in mat-
ters relating to environmental laws or toxic tort litigation.
The 2017-18 ETTS board is committed to continuing and
expanding on the core mission of the section, and invites
those interested in learning more to join us.
CLE and Practice Seminar (OSAH)
In March 2017, ETTS sponsored a detailed, informative
breakfast CLE addressing Georgia EPD’s Revised Industrial
Stormwater NPDES Permit. Entitled “What’s New and Why
Does it Matter to You,” the engaging discussion featured
Glen Behrend of the EPD, and technical consultant Brian
Edwards of Conversion Technology Inc.
Looking ahead, the Section is preparing to sponsor an in-
formal and informative conversation with several Admin-
istrative Law Judges at the Georgia Office of State Admin-
istrative Hearings (OSAH), where we will discuss practical
tips for those with cases before OSAH and also proposed
improvements that could be made to the current rules and
procedures. This event is tentatively planned for early 2018.
Socials
The section will be hosting or otherwise participating in a
number of upcoming social events. The section will host a
brewery tour on September 21, 2017 at Orpheus Brewery,
1440 Dutch Valley PL, NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 beginning at
7 p.m. The Section will soon announce a fall mixer to take
place in October, which is anticipated to take full advantage
of cooler outside temperatures.
In addition, the section is planning to participate in the
Rivers Alive cleanup at Johns Homestead Park in Tucker
in late October. More details will be forthcoming shortly.
Upcoming Programs
Looking forward to the year ahead, the board is engaged
in developing additional programs. The board invites its
members to offer suggestions concerning a CLE, seminar,
social event or opportunity for community engagement.
