SECTION UPDATE ESTATE PLANNING & PROBATE The Estate Planning & Probate Section is finishing the 2018-2019 Atlanta Bar year strong! For the first time, the Estate Planning and Probate Section contributed to the Atlanta Bar’s Summer Law Internship Program (SLIP) with a generous donation of $2,100. The Section will also be donating $2,100 to the Georgia Heirs Property Law Center. Additionally, the Estate Planning & Probate Section contributed to the 2018 End of Summer Party, 2018 Celebrating Service Luncheon, the 2019 Atlanta Bar’s March Madness and purchased a half table for the 2019 Annual Meeting. The Estate Planning and Probate Section is also a large donor to the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyer Founda- tion (AVLF) wine tasting event occurring in the fall. SPRING EVENTS At the April 10, 2019 Section Breakfast, David Adams and Quinn Shearer of Adams Capital spoke on the “Top 10 Business Valuation Issues Every Attorney Should Know.” The Section's May breakfast featured Jeff Zitron of Hendrick Rascoe Zitron & Long, LLC, who spoke on the topic of Asset Protection Rules, Tools and Georgia Update. The first breakfast of the 2019-2020 year will be held June 12, 2019 where Barbara Koll of the Fulton County Probate Court will speak on Current Topics in Guardianship/Conservatorship. The Estate Planning and Probate Section also held a luncheon at the downtown Capital City Club on April 17, 2019. Professor Mary Radford of Georgia State University College of Law gave an update on cases and Georgia Law. This event is a recurring annual event due to its popularity. Next year is Professor Rad- ford’s last year at Georgia State: the Section sincerely hopes she will continue as one of its most engaging and informatiove speakers. On April 30, 2019 the Estate Planning and Probate Section held its annual Speakers & Sponsors Din- ner at the Ansley Golf Club. This event honors the section’s wonderful event speakers and sponsors. The Section’s sponsors for the 2018-2019 year are Moore Stephens Tiller LLC, American Surety Bonds, Brightworth, Regions, Adams Capital, Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, and Sterling Founda- tion Management, LLC. We also honor our speakers by making a $2,000 do- nation to the AVLF of Fulton County on their behalf. 38 April/May 2019 PRO BONO AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES The Section Board’s Pro Bono/Community Activities Committee is made up of members Jackie Saylor, Tim Curtin, Hamida Jackson-Little, and Julia Hightower. We welcome other members of our section to rec- ommend ideas for Section involvement in Pro Bono/ Community Activities to the Committee. The Estate Planning and Probate Section continues to volunteer at the Fulton County and DeKalb County Probate Information Centers (PICs). In addition, the Section’s members and additional recruits have been involved in volunteer initiatives for organizations such as Three-Oh-We-Go, led by Julia Hightower, and North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC), led by Hamida Jackson-Little. Section members will continue to vol- unteer with these organizations in the future, as well as with Crossroads Community Ministries and other organizations. Marcus Royal, Christan Rozzell, Millie Baumbusch, Asher Hannah, LeAnne Gilbert, and Tim Curtin signed up to volunteer with Crossroads. Jackie Saylor recruited volunteers and passed their names on to Crossroads’ management.
