BEER and CLE Series Session II of our “Life of a Lawyer” seminar in our BEER and CLE Series continued with “How to Balance Work & Life” at Gordon Biersch in Midtown on February 18th. The seminar was led by three outstanding speakers, including Anthony L. Cochran of Chivilis Cochran, Lillian N. Caudle of Jones Day and Derin B. Dickerson of Alston & Bird. We held our February happy hour during the first hour of the BEER and CLE Series to truly incorporate the Work/Life Balance concept and prepare attendees for the CLE. Session III of our “Life of a Lawyer” seminar in our BEER and CLE Series featured Steve T. LaBriola with Fellows LaBriola, Audra A. Dial with Kilpatrick Townsend and William F. Smith with Schenk Smith, speaking on the topic of “How to Market” on March 4th at Gordon Biersch in Midtown. We received terrific feedback from the attendees. Special thanks to ACYL Member Will Smith for helping to organize the Life of a Lawyer Series. The finale of our Beer and CLE Series covered “Life of the Deal” and was held on April 15th at Gordon Biersch in Midtown. We co-hosted with the Corporate Counsel Section of the Atlanta Bar who, together with ACYL Member Nora Budman, put together an excellent panel. John R. Renaud, Senior Counsel with Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., Patrick Davidson, Counsel of Commercial Transactions with Cox Enterprises, Inc., and Kristine Berry Morain, Senior Vice President and General Counsel with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, were our featured speakers. Additionally, there was a Happy Hour from 5:30 and 6:30 prior to the Seminar that included drink tickets and appetizers. MENTORING BREAKFASTS Our mentoring breakfasts continue to be very well attended thanks to the excellent programming from ACYL Members 30 THE ATLANTA LAWYER April 2015 Jamie Perez, Julia Black and Kristy Zimmerman. In March our Mentoring Breakfast featured Gene Chapman of Giacoma Schleicher Roberts & Daughdrill LLC, who spoke on Legal Malpractice Pitfalls. Our April Mentoring Breakfast focused on Job Search Tips and Tactics and was very informative thanks to our featured guest, Susanne Tarter of Cambridge Professional Group. Please join us for our final Mentoring Breakfast of the fiscal year on May 13th. The topic will be “Lawyering 101: Interacting with Judges, Opposing Counsel, Clients, Starting Cases, Filing Forms and Ethical Issues.” There is no cost to attend the Mentoring Breakfasts (you pay only for your own breakfast) and they are typically held monthly at J. Christopher’s in Midtown from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Please visit the Atlanta Bar website for registration information. Additionally, Escape Vehicle, regulars at many of Atlanta’s most popular music venues, will be playing live music throughout the Happy Hour and into the evening.
