The Paris attacks and 21° Aquarius Smiljana Gavrančić The Paris terrorist atrocities last year occurred at moments which confirmed a recurring theme in France’s horoscope(s), as the author seeks to demonstrate Although traditionally related to the sign of Leo1, France has a ‘sensitive’ point in the horoscope - at 21° Aquarius, the degree of Neptune’s exaltation. Many momentous or tragic (often terrorist) events in France’s history highlight this sign and degree. Think of Paris and one visualises the Eiffel Tower, named after its creator Gustave Eiffel. When we progress his chart for the moment the Eiffel Tower was officially presented to the world (31 March 1889), we see his [progressed] Sun at 21° Aquarius. In the horoscope of the First French Republic [26 September 1792 NS, Paris, 9:00 am], Pluto, the Ascendant ruler (the capital) is at 21° Aquarius! The famous WWII Normandy landings codenamed Operation Neptune (termed D-Day) commenced on 6 June 1944. Solar arc Mercury of the French First Republic was at 21° Aquarius. Mercury rules the 8th house and symbolises disputes and wars. That happened after the lunar eclipse on 14 May 1938 at 22° Scorpio 54’, which squares 21° Aquarius. The French Fifth Republic was formed on 5 October 1958, led by Charles De Gaulle, after two eclipses. One of them was lunar at 21° Leo 14’ – on 11 February 1952. The other was solar at 22° Scorpio 52’ – on 13 May 1957. In 1960 France tested its first nuclear bomb in the Algerian desert, but there was also the attack on the Strasbourg-Paris train on 18 June 1961 when twenty-eight people died. Alain Poher, who was twice acting President (once after De Gaulle’s resignation in 1969, and the second time after the sudden death of Georges Pompidou in 1974) had MC at 22° Aquarius. The most notable close associate of De Gaulle, Georges Pompidou, became President of the Fifth French Republic on 20 June 1969. His Asc/Dsc axis is across 20° Leo 25’/20° Aquarius 25’. He died in office. President for seven years, he was succeeded by the famous socialist François Mitterrand, the longest-serving President – in office fourteen years. Mitterrand’s presidency began on 21 May 1981: his secondary progressed Ascendant was at 20° Scorpio 44’, squaring 21° Aquarius. At the same time, solar arc Moon of the French First Republic was at 20° Leo 57’, also activating 21° Aquarius. Mitterrand is remembered, among other things, for his government’s so-called ‘Cohabitation’ with Chirac, and for rising inflation. During his tenure there were three eclipses that affected France. The first was on 12 November 1985, solar at 20° Scorpio 09’, almost at the degree of his secondary Asc at the time he became President. The lunar eclipse at 20° Leo 47’ followed on 9 February 1990.
