Antonia is a passionate water colourist. Born in
Perth, Western Australia, she moved to Sydney
with her family in 1959 and studied at the
National Art School in Sydney. She travelled to
England shortly after and studied for five years
at The Slade, where her greatest influence was
Frank Auerbach with whom she worked for two
years. For many years Antonia taught drawing
and watercolour painting in Secondary Schools
and later in Adult Education. She is frequently in
demand as a professional tutor for ‘Art Holiday’
painting courses, watercolour tutorials and as a
visiting lecturer. Antonia has received many
awards for her work including First Prize at the
Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA)
Open Watercolour Competition and Third Prize
in the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times
Watercolour Competition 2001. In 2003 she was
awarded the ‘Grand Prix’ at the 14ème Salon
International de la Peinture à l’Eau in Tregastel,
France, and was Peintre Laureat for this
competition the following year. She has had
many solo exhibitions in the UK, the US,
Australia and France, including among others at
the Prudho Gallery (London), the Art League
(Washington D.C.), Robin Gibson Gallery (Sydney)
and the Brian Sinfield Gallery (Burford,
Oxfordshire).
