Born in Islington in 1962, Andrea moved with her
Irish parents to Lancashire at the age of seven.
She did an Art Foundation Course at Blackburn
College in Lancashire and, in 1984, gained a B.A.
(Hons) in Fashion & Textiles from Liverpool John
Moores University. She returned to London in
1986 where she now lives and works. Andrea
pursued a successful international career in
fashion illustration, working for leading
advertising agencies, designers and design
groups. She was a regular fashion illustrator for
The Sunday Times and her clients included
British Vogue, Catherine Walker & Co., Saatchi
& Saatchi, The Natural History Museum and
The Royal College of Art.
In 1988, she won The Guardian Fashion
Illustration Award and represented The
Guardian, for which she also illustrated, at
Japanese Fashion Week in Tokyo. More recently,
she was commissioned to produce paintings for
the book Josie and the Dragon by U.S. fashion
designer Josie Natori, which culminated in a solo
exhibition at the Openhouse Gallery, New York,
in November 2012. One of the paintings for the
book was shortlisted by the London-based
Association of Illustrators (AOI) for the 2013
Book Illustration Award. Since 2000 Byrne has
focused on large-scale paintings of flowers.
