Steven Appleby is a cartoonist, illustrator and
artist of dual British and Canadian nationality
and currently based in the UK. He was tutored
by the illustrator Quentin Blake and became
internationally acclaimed with work published in
a number of newspapers such as The Times,
The Guardian and The Sunday Telegraph.
His work first appeared in the New Musical
Express in 1984 with the Captain Star comic
strip, which was made into an animated cartoon
series in 1997. The strip Loomus can currently
be seen in The Guardian and his series of
cartoons Steven Appleby’s Normal Life was
translated into German and published in
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as well as made
into a radio series for BBC Radio 4. His work is
observational and humorous and has been
exhibited and published in over 20 books.
His influences range from artists such as Andy
Warhol to writers such as Philip K Dick.
Steven works with Winsor & Newton Indian Ink
when inking his drawings followed by Artist’s
Water Colour.
