116 The Stunning Chateau Gutsch In Switzerland By Marty n Lawr e nce B u l l a rd Chateau Gutsch is one of the most famous landmarks in Switzerland. This magnificent hotel was built on the site of an 18th century manor house and hunting lodge in 1884. The style was inspired by the mad king Ludwig II’s Bavarian fantasy castles and due to its imposing scale can be seen from every angle from the beautiful city of Lucerne. The 50,000 sq ft castle-like structure boasts breathtaking views over the lake Lucerne and the famous mountains that surround it. Originally a vacation destination for Queen Victoria, Lucerne is steeped in history and it IS that very history that inspired the décor.
