Cruising Update
By Jim Cormack
We have been blessed with great weather for our cruising
activities recently, beautiful clear and warm sunny days have
allowed us to soak up the sunshine as we cruised to our cruise
sanctuary in the national park. I guess that must be the reason
why so many turned out for our recent events.
Anzac weekend turned into a search mission for the Z Force
Commando unit at refuge bay which involved a climb/clamber
up the rock face to the stunningly beautiful outlook at the top
of the falls which set as the backdrop to the bay. Facing west,
it invites the most spectacular sunset viewing whilst enjoying a
cool beverage and great times with friends. Greg and Margaret
assure me that they found remnants of the original Z Force
camp which assisted in their relaying of the story of the Z Force
Commandos, the Krait and their mission to Singapore Harbour
during the Second World War.
While our planning continues for the two offshore sesquicentenary cruises to The Clarence River in October and November
and for the Coral Coast Cruise from May to October next year.
Information sessions for these two cruises will be held on May
29th for the Coral Coast Cruise and on June 4th for the Clarence River Cruise; booking forms are available through the
newsletter and website. In addition we have a range of Estuary
Cruises and a Cruise Ashore to round out our winter cruising
activities and we are looking forward to joining the Portuguese
Beach Picnics held on the last Sunday of May and the winter
months.
Following the very successful May First Friday dinner where
Jeff Sherman regaled us with Tales of a Delivery Skipper we are
looking forward to bringing you a range of different speakers
and activities throughout the remainder of the year so ensure
that your subscription to the Cruising Newsletter is active so
that you can keep up to date with our activities.
Once again, we are always looking for volunteers to organise
cruises and if you have any particular subjects that you think
would generate interest for a First Friday Dinner topic please
talk to one of your committee members so that we can look
into it for you.
The Cruise Calendar for 2016-2017 season is now available on
the Cruising Pages in the club website, so mark out the events
you want to attend. Getting involved is the best way to make
or consolidate friendships and ensure you get the most out of
your cruising experiences. Please also remember that Cruising
is a whole of club activity and many racers are now seeing the
fun we have and are increasingly joining in our activities. All are
welcome, so come along and get involved.
