Cruising Update
A Tale of Adventure and Courage.
Our guest speakers at October First Friday will be Chris and Jess Bray. Chris and
Jess will talk about their adventures fitting out, and then sailing, their 29ft wooden
junk-rigged boat ‘Teleport’ through the Northwest Passage from Halifax to the west
coast of Alaska over two seasons. They have recently returned from photographic
tours in Iceland, Alaska and Kenya and will share some photographic tips and a few
photographs.
Chris spent 5 years of his childhood sailing around the world with his parents. Jess
grew up to the west of Sydney on her parent’s property. Both became adventurers.
Chris is an Australian Geographic photographer and keen adventurer. When not
hauling carts across remote Arctic islands, sailing the Northwest Passage, or trekking
remote southwest Tasmania, Chris runs photography courses around Australia and
photo safaris around the world. He has been awarded Australian Geographic’s Young
Adventurer of the Year (2004) and Spirit of Adventure (2009) awards, and now sits
on the board of The Australian Geographic Society. Jess is an experienced wilderness
guide and keen photographer and videographer. Jess had not sailed before they set
off to sail the Northwest Passage!
