Club Marine Pittwater to Southport Yacht Race
Consistent strong southerly breezes for the first ever Club Marine Pittwater to Southport Yacht Race hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club brought in the last boat , Ian Edward ’ s Firefly , from 18 starters to the finish line at 22:10 EDT on Wednesday January 4 , 2017 . Doug Coulter ’ s Shakti , a Rogers 46 from Lake Macquarie Yacht Club , not only claimed line honours in the Club Marine Pittwater to Southport Yacht Race but also collected the silverware for first place in both IRC and ORCi divisions . 2017 Etchells National Championship
RPAYC was extremely well represented at the recent Etchells Australian National Championship which was hosted by RPAYC and sailed off Palm Beach January 12 th through 15 th , 2017 . Many of Australia ’ s top sailors were sailing in the Etchells Nationals , including Etchells World Champions , Olympians , America ’ s Cup veterans and Volvo Ocean Race veterans . Several sailors from RPAYC ’ s Hall of Fame were also competing including Iain Murray , Steve McConaghy , Cameron Miles , Anthony Merrington and Peter Merrington .

Jack Felsenthal and Shaun Connor Crowned Viper World Champs
They led from the outset and at the conclusion of the Viper Worlds 2017 Australians Jack Felsenthal and Shaun Connor ( Charter World ) beat the immediate past French world champion and took out the series by nine points . With six wins from 11 starts and two drops in play the pair ’ s worst score was a third , showing that consistency across a mix of conditions in the 11 race series presented by Rex Gorell Land Rover was paramount . 2017 Australian Optimist Championship
The 2017 Australian Optimist and Open Championships were held at Largs Bay Sailing Club in Adelaide , South Australia . Largs Bay is north of the Adelaide CBD and is a place where the sunsets are amazing . Many RPAYC sailors made their way to Adelaide mostly by road with their parents but some by air for the regatta held over 10 days in very hot Adelaide conditions . Most of the days saw the temperatures exceeding 40 degrees on the shore . Read more on page 7
