Cycling back to Hertelendy, it seems unfair in such
starkly poor countryside. But I think to my travels
across the globe and it’s the same story… India,
Africa, Asia… luxury exists amidst poverty. The
beauty here is that the two perfectly intertwine,
enhancing and supporting one other. The chateau
employs staff from the villages. One of the most
charming people at Hertelendy is Yuly, the Head
Waiter. Utterly charismatic and professional, he is the
epitome of refined and polished service, setting the
standard high. During autumn, locals are employed
in the apple orchards. And year-round, their wares
are bought by the hotel, so much so, they’ specifically
bring items that the hotel is known to purchase, such
as wild mushrooms hand-picked from the forest, for
meals. This helps Hertelendy to maintain a buoyant
and friendly relationship with surrounding communities, built on mutual respect and friendship.
A Pocket Of Paradise
By the same token, Hertelendy is unashamedly luxurious. Attracting ‘pilots, hunters, horse lovers, golfers,
gourmets and romantics’ there’s no doubt that it
represents the ultimate in rest and relaxation, oozing
effortless style and charm that’s trailblazing for the
country. And with complimentary transfers to and
from Budapest airport, or private runway for private
planes, its ease of access is faultless.
