sprightly chateau, which resembles a beautiful
stately home. A sense of serenity pervades the
space. Bicycles are parked outside, for guests
to explore countryside villages. Beyond, I spot
the horse stables. Across the fields lie endless
woodland and apple orchards; all private property of Hertelendy.
As I enter the castle, I’m led directly to lunch.
A palatial dining room and adjoining library
retain a majestic homely feel. With few suites
and even fewer guests late in autumn, the
castle is quiet and, this evening, I have it
mostly to myself. Pristine table settings are
enhanced by a traditional waiter who serves
the first of several courses; a seasonal spiced

seeds and side of berries. Many of the ingredients served in this silver-service haute dining
scene are grown within the grounds and are
organic. My homemade cloudy apple juice is
freshly squeezed from handpicked apples from
the acres of on-site orchards. The freshness is
sensational, popping in flavour and instantly
connecting me to the nature that surrounds.
After lunch, I check into a spacious loft suite
before heading straight out to explore the
grounds. Behind the property, the garden is
every girl’s dream. A large overhanging tree
is fitted with a wooden swing, dangling from
