Telling the BeltLine’s Story It’s impossible to tell the story of Atlanta today without including the Atlanta BeltLine, a sustainable redevelopment project that itself speaks to the city’s past and future. Built on a historic 22-mile railroad corridor circling downtown, the BeltLine is a growing network of public parks and multiuse trails and has been a catalyst for intown redevelopment. Cox Chairman Jim Kennedy was chair of the BeltLine’s first capital campaign, and he and the James M. Cox Foundation are the project’s largest private donors. Cox Enterprises Chief Financial Officer Dallas Clement serves as the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership’s board chair. The Cox Foundation’s most recent grant to the project helped complete the buildout of the Atlanta BeltLine Center, which serves both as a welcome center for visitors and office space for the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership. The center is located on the BeltLine’s Eastside Trail, and offers educational exhibits, donor recognition, information on tours, and opportunities to engage in membership and volunteer projects. Cox Enterprises made facilities experts available to help plan the facility and leveraged relationships with partner vendors, adding valuable in-kind support for the project. The new center will help the BeltLine Partnership advocate, connect and fundraise — continuing its mission and writing a new chapter in Atlanta’s history. With little money but big dreams, these committed volunteers came together in 1991 to form the PATH Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to developing a system of interlinking greenway trails across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Fast forward to today and an extraordinary transformation has occurred: Atlanta now ranks among the premier pedestrian and bike trail cities in the nation.
