to Opportunity
The Jim Kennedy Scholarship Fund
Cox Enterprises Chairman Jim Kennedy has long taken a personal interest in
helping children of Cox employees realize their college dreams. In 2008, he
established and personally funded the Jim Kennedy Scholarship Fund to help
put children of Cox employees on the path to success. Now in its 10th year, the
Fund awards 10 new scholarships each year in the amount of $10,000 to high
school seniors entering their first year of college. The program is open to
students whose parent or guardian is a nonexecutive employee and has worked
full-time at a Cox company for at least three years. An independent committee
selects recipients based on financial need and a demonstrated commitment to
personal development. The scholarship is renewable for up to three additional
academic years, reaching a total value of $40,000.
Season for Sharing Makes Holiday Spirits Bright
There’s no better time to give than around the holidays. The Season for Sharing
program does just that by assisting Atlanta-based Cox employees and their
families who are experiencing financial hardships. Employees may apply for
themselves, a family member or a colleague. Checks for up to $500 are mailed
in mid-December to help cover holiday expenses. In 2018, the program granted
nearly $200,000 in assistance to over 500 employees.
