Across Cox Build
a Place to Play
We believe that all kids deserve a safe place to play,
which is why Cox businesses have partnered with
KaBOOM!, a nonprofit organization dedicated to
bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives
of all kids — and teach science, technology,
engineering and math skills in the process. Each
project begins with a “design day” where local students
play architect and engineer, sketching their ideas for the
new playground. Their concepts are shared with
professional architects, who develop bespoke designs
based on a community’s wish list.
“As we are going into our third year of Tech
Gives Back, Cox has been an indispensable
partner for our community. Held monthly from
April through October, the Tech Gives Back
initiative harnesses the volunteer energy of
Atlanta’s tech community to support
community causes. More than 100 companies
have been able to participate in meaningful,
hands-on work for local nonprofits, while also
enjoying the benefits of team building and
networking across the tech and startup
ecosystem. Taking an afternoon away from
the office to give back is not only an energizer
for teams, but it makes our whole city stronger
through collective action. Together with Cox,
our team is thrilled to be part of this
movement and grow the visibility of service in
our thriving technology sector.”

In October 2018, employees from Cox partnered with
KaBOOM! to build a playground and outdoor learning
space in metro Atlanta. CEO Alex Taylor was on-site to
help out and get the volunteers motivated.
In just five hours, the volunteers mixed 9,920 pounds
of concrete, moved 108 cubic yards of mulch and built
a playground, outdoor classroom, stage, benches and
double shade structure. According to Dresden Elementary
principal Jesse Berger, the new play spaces “will be
a tremendous asset to this school, providing another
opportunity for extracurricular activities and an outdoor
learning space to enhance classroom instruction.”
Together, Cox and KaBOOM! have built four playgrounds,
which serve a total of 2,600 children.
